Some 6T70 applications (RPO MH2, MH4, MH6 or MY9) may exhibit a dark or blue color in the metal of the torque converter. This condition is typically on the hub side of the converter and is not present on all 6T70 torque converters. The discoloration is created by the manufacturing process and is caused by the release of chemicals that were used on the molds.

Page 1 of 1 Torque Converter Discolored T ransmission: 6T70 Some 6T70 applications (RPO MH2, MH4, MH6 or MY9) may exhibit a dark or blue color in the metal of the torque converter. You may notice what looks like dark circles in the discoloration. This condition is typically on the hub side of the converter and is not present on all 6T70 torque converters. If the whole converter is not discolored and evidence of an overheating condition is not present, DO NOT replace the torque converter. The discoloration is created by the manufac- turing process and is caused by the release of chemicals that were used on the molds. The chemical cleaning/release treatment is not applied to the molds for each converter so that is the reason not all of the converters exhibit this condition. If the converter is completely discolored and other evidence of an overheating condition is present, (such as burnt fluid, metallic debris seen in the fluid, etc.) then the converter should be replaced.
