CCSD is 10 years ahead of the game.
We have already met the dealine for literacy plan.

So whats new?

Reading Summer Camps: mandatory for all 3rd
graders not meeting performance standards.
Reading Coach Positions: Title 1 schools will get
reading coaches.
There is a formula for assigning coaches.
The coaches are trained by the state.

Coaches will only work with teachers
(not students).
The focus is on the tier 1 students.
The support will be HEAVY at the k-
2/primary level.

Interventions:
All students (pre-K -12th grade) who are not
substantially demonstrating reading at
their grade level WILL and MUST receive
interventions.

It is the job of the SCHOOL to provide
students with additional support in reading
for struggling students.

Interventions:
Classroom teachers (ALL teachers) must provide
interventions within the classroom and
document these interventions.

Literacy Competencies:

ALL teachers will have to get the literacy
endorsements within ten years.
Teachers can take college courses
or PD hours.

Literacy Endoresement:
CCSD will offer approved PD workshops in order
to get credit for literacy endorsement.

60 PD hours or 1 course (middle & high school)
240 PD hours and 4 courses (elementary)

Principals, guidance directors, psychologists,
etc will also need endorsements.

Book Study:
Falling in Love with Close Reading
All TCT members should complete the book by
October 28th.
Each teacher is responsible for becoming an
expert on one chapter.
Experts are to post something on the
Secondary EDMODO page AND respond to
one other post.

All book study books are free through GALE.
Book Study #2 will be after Christmas.
