Philosophy 12 Novel Study

Choose a novel from the list provided. Some novels will be available from the library, and some
will be available through me.
You are expected to read your novel on your own time. You will be presenting an independent
project on your novel throughout the semester, schedule to be announced.
Your primary goal is to link your novel to one of the areas of Philosophy we will study in
class. Many of the novels listed will relate to politics, existentialism, religion, free will, etc., or to
an amalgamation of areas.
You will be required to summarie your novel, provide your o!n interpretation, and present
your o!n opinion. You will also be required to provide a brief biography of the author. If you
consult secondary sources, I would like you to include a bibliography, M! format.
"""#ou !ill turn in a po!er point slide sho! !ith the compiled parts before your
presentation date"""
If you have a novel in mind that is not on the provided list, I would like you to do some
rudimentary reading"research, and then discuss it with me.
#here are some novels on the list that contain explicit ideas $The Handmaid's Tale, Pilgrim%& if
you feel uncomfortable with such material, I encourage you to choose a different novel.
'onsider your own reading abilities, and also the time that you will have outside of school to
spend on this novel. If you have many extra(curricular activities, perhaps avoid War and Peace.
You are on your own for this pro)ect. I expect that you will choose your novel by the end of
*ctober, and begin reading immediately.
