In 2007, 5.5 of the population in Atlanta, Georgia suffered the loss of the water. By 2008
Georgia obtain a few drizzles that helped this state to overcome the dryness. A Tropical Storm
Fay was strong enough to let the state of Georgia survived and avoided to become as the Gobi
Desert. For more than 20 years Atlanta, Florida, and Alabama have been fought a Tri-State
Water War. This issue was started, because Atlanta did not know how to administrate their water
supplies.
Atlanta, Georgia proclaims they are the only state in the U.S. nation that knows how to preserve
the water for their population. The city of Atlanta is the only city without a major body of water
nearby. They relied into two major Federal reservoirs that are; Lake Allatoona and Lake Sydney
Lanier. In other words this city gets three fourths of water from the Lake Lanier that it is located
50 miles apart from Atlanta. As Atlanta gets their water from the Lake Lanier, Alabama and
Florida are against of this event. Until the three states in the nation come up with a solution they
will be against each other for a while.
No one would realize that Atlanta would growth, and continued to have a population. As I
mentioned earlier it has been over 20 years of growth in the entire history of the U.S. Since 1973
the city of Atlanta used the corps directly from the Lake Lanier. The amount of taking the water
grew bigger and bigger. In 1988 taking out so much water from the Lake Lanier was deeply
affecting the population around the lake. Later the corps recommended that 20 percent of the
water from the lake will continue providing the water to Atlanta.
The decrease in the water was getting shorter; by 2007 the three states start to cooperate.
For five hours the three states came together in a reunion that last five hours. Together all the
three states agreed they would share water supply. But when it rainfalls start on these states the
agreement broke.
In 2008 the government of these three states wanted to get water from the Tennessee River.
Official corps insisted that Atlanta needed from Alabamas for power and farming, and also
needed Floridas seafood and tourism. Atlanta once again argued that water is an essential supply
for living, which they should be able to get without having trouble.
Atlanta complains, because no one would want to share water. Water is a natural resource, but if
you do not know how to use it, you will lose it. The city of Atlanta wastes their water source, and
it became the first city without a body of water. After losing their resource the city learned to
take care of water. Even though they suffered from water resources, the city grew bigger. They
had problems with Alabama and Florida, because Atlanta would take water from the Lake
Lanier. The region of Atlanta finally founded a solution and they employ techniques to reduce
water occupation.
Law makers in Georgia created a Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District. With this
magnificent idea they would manage their storm water management. This plan was included
region wide, and more than 15 countries applied these to their countries, and more than 90 cities
within Georgia used it. Water Planning District wrote reasonable plan to keep water in
conservation. Everything in the plan is mandatory, the Atlanta Regional commission put this in
practice, all around the state of Georgia.

The 2008 World Economic forum in Davos, Switzerland, United Nations Secretary
General Ban Ki-moon weighed in on water conflict. The challenge of our world is to keep or
maintain the consistence of water. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon says; when it becomes a way
of research or to find water, our society starts a fight. Politicians had been predicting our next
war, and it is not going to be because of oil, but because of water. Larges projects to produce
dams have being creating that our society becomes violent.
The population during the years will increase; the necessity of water will be even bigger. The
decreasing of water is creating a conflict between countries and nature. If water becomes
privatized our society will increase the rate of violence. The nations coming together would help
to provide water for their nations, and avoid wars or violence. Is a fact that water bring together
nations, it is a heavy resource that every single human being needs.
Cooperating transforms the way of collecting, maintain, and providing the water in our world.
Nations cooperating will decrease the loss of natural resources. Ecosystem management will
increase the opportunities of cultivate food, decrease losing lakes, and body of water resources.
As society applies this concept, there is a chance we all get the benefits. Nations for years have
being, and still have international treading goods. They agreed to share, but also it would be
requiring some of the other countries goods.
Water is an essential need for human beings, and it is used as a resource of economy, ecological,
etc. The growth of water scarcity will affect as I mentioned cause wars all around. If our society
continues to not care about water, we might dies soon. Or our next generations will suffer from
not having water. Privatizing the water it is not a solution, because water is a natural resource. At
the point that we are moving as a society; water probable will be privatize to keep it for more
years.
