Description
The basic goals of technical theatre are: know the responsibilities of technical theater in the support of a
production and develop skills in basic stage construction and technical operation of equipment in the
cooperative presentation in the art of theatre.
Standards
The purpose of standards is to help organize the curriculum into manageable units representing the
artistry and craft as well as problem-solving skills in the process of creation of the art of technical theatre.

Standard One: Stage Terminology: Students will understand and apply the special language of the stage.
Objective A: Identify the areas of acting and stage directions on a stage.
Objective B: Identify the areas off stage, stage equipment and technical equipment.
Objective C: Use the stage terminology when working on a stage or space.

organization.
Objective A: Recognize the various positions in an arts organization and the responsibilities of each.
Objective B: Identify the tasks related to the specific positions of set, lighting and sound designers.
Standard Three: The Design Process: Students will develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills when
designing sets, costumes, lights and sound for a theatre presentation and the need to work together with other
technicians in the design process.
Objective A: Students will analyze a script for technical clues.
Objective B: Students will identify specific design problems and offer solutions.

Objective D: Using the tools of perspective, students will draw a set in perspective.
Objective E: Students will create and plan a set with lights, costumes and sound for a production.
Objective F: Students will evaluate the success of the design and process.
Standard Four: Students will learn the rules of safety and safe power toll and machine operation in a scene
shop environment.
Objective A: Students will know the rules of safe operation of scene shop tools and the safety required
in a scene shop.
Objective B: Students will identify the parts of a miter saw, table saw, band saw, drill press, hand power
tools and their safe operation.
Objective C: Students will know and apply the safety measures of a scene shop.
Standard Five: Students will identify and label parts of a flat and construct a flat, a basic unit of scenery.
Objective A: Students will label the parts of a flat using the correct terminology
Objective B: Students will cut the parts, assembly and cover a flat using the correct procedures.
Objective C: Students will evaluate the flat according to given measurements.
Standard Six: Students will recognize the types of lighting instruments used and correctly name the parts of the
instrument and change out the lamps of the lighting instrument.

Standard Seven: Students will learn correct make up techniques.
Objective A: Students will identify the necessary components of a make-up kit.
Objective B: Students will assembly a make-up morgue to use for designs.
\Objective C: After observing a make-up demonstration students will be able to prepare make-up
following corrective, middle-age and fantasy make-up designs created by themselves.
