Structural Geology and Geology Mapping
(To be submitted at end of tutorial so please write down your names and student IDs)
1) What are the basic features typically found on geological maps?
2) List down the areas where you can find distribution of (i) sedimentary, (ii)
metamorphosed and (iii) igneous rocks from the maps (e.g. North of the Batang Igan
etc).
3) Name 2 types of rock formations (e.g. Padawan or Tuang Formations etc) found on
the maps and list down what kind of rocks (e.g. sedimentary rocks etc) they consist
of in a Table.
4) What are the types of rock materials (e.g. name of rocks: granite etc) that are usually
excavated for road and building uses?
5) List down the locations where you can find potential quarries and ores of economic
values.
6) What are the differences between an anticline and a syncline?
7) What are differences and similarities between a fault and a fold?
8) Why is the information on dip and strike directions as well as direction of inclination
of bedding planes important when an engineer wants to cut part of a hill for road
construction?
9) Where can you usually find quaternary deposits? What does this deposit consist of?
10) Why does microtonalite not show any bedding planes?
