NAME OF INSTRUCTOR: Lingo K

DISCIPLINE AND NUMBER: DRAM 3356 SECTION: 501
DAY: m/w/f TIME: 7:00 PM - 9:45 PM
COURSE TITLE: Advanced Acting

DESCRIPTION OF COURSE:

The class is designed for students with some experience and/or class work in acting—either stage
or camera. The course is designed to build on the student’s personal resources as it develops
techniques in characterization, physicalization, and performance.

Course requirements will be linked to participation in the Fall 2009 UTD production directed by
Kathy Lingo, who is the instructor for the course. Title of the production is “Book of Liz”.

This course is meant to give the student a highly individualized and hands on understanding of
acting through direct and practical application in a theatre production. Approaches to acting and
the development of the student’s unique expression, method and process of acting will be
highlighted. A variety of acting techniques will be introduced and explored with emphasis given to
script and character analysis, the actor's knowledge of their body as an acting instrument and the
proficiency of the actor's voice as an acting tool.

Performance participation in the Fall production requires an audition, which will occur before and at
onset of the Fall semester. Acting roles will vary in size with the amount of time commitment
varying accordingly. Anticipate rehearsals beginning early September and generally occurring
Monday/Wednesday and Friday evenings (7-10:30) and Sundays (1-4:30). If cast you will not be
called for each rehearsal..

Those not cast in the Fall 2009 production may substitute their course requirement with an
instructor approved and supervised production (stage or video) in the DFW area.

Please contact the instructor if you have any concerns, questions, or require permission to enroll.
