Alley Poyner Macchietto Architecture

1516 Cummings Street

Omaha, NE 68102

Dear Alley Poyner Macchietto, December 2009

I am interested in becoming an architecture intern at your firm for the coming summer of
2010. I visited your firm last March and experienced your productive atmosphere. This firm, I
feel, adds a personal touch to architecture in the city of Omaha with your designs and friendly
style. I would like the opportunity to be a part of your team.

I am a third year architecture student at North Dakota State University. I have taken a wide
variety of classes to develop my design qualities such as design technology, structures and
environmental control systems (ECS). The technology that is used in your firm I have learned
in environmental control systems. I have worked with SketchUp to design a small diner last
semester, and I have used Revit to design a Center for Excellence that would run on wind
energy.

While designing a project to use and educate about wind energy I worked on research with
passive systems. Learning about sustainability is a key interest that I have. I would like the
chance to work at your firm because of your interest in environmentally friendly buildings.
I especially like your LEED certified International Quilt Study Center on the University of
Lincoln campus. The whole design process was thoroughly thought out with the façade of
glass panels ‘stitched together.’ It is important to merge sustainability into design now, and I
see your firm as a place I can learn about that.

During my experiences volunteering and working customer service at other jobs, I developed
great social skills. In our studio classes, I enjoy working with my peers on models and it is
important to me to be part of a team effort. Your firm seems to be excellent at working with
the clients, and I have received several positive comments about my team work from previous
mangers.

I would like to work with your talented staff and learn more about the flow of the architecture
profession as an intern. I look forward to an interview with you.
