Grade Level: 6 Subject: Science Brief Description of Activity: The main focus of this activity is for the students to explore space at their own pace. Before letting the students play around on their own, the teacher will show them on the SMART Board how to manipulate the different part of the websites and how to explore in an efficient manner. Then, to guide the exploration in the right direction, the teacher will give handouts with questions on them for the students to answer. They can start with which ever website they want, and then move on to the second one when they feel ready. General Learner Outcome: Students will: Observe, describe and interpret the movements of objects in the sky; and identify pattern and order in these movements. Specific Learner Outcomes: Students will: Describe the location and movement of individual stars and groups of stars (constellations) as they move through the night sky. Recognize that the Moons phases are regular and predictable, and describe the cycle of its phases. Recognize that the other eight known planets, which revolve around the Sun, have characteristics and surface conditions that are different from Earth; and identify examples of those differences. Understand that Earth, the Sun and the Moon are part of a solar system that occupies only a tiny part of the known universe. ICT Outcomes: C.6.1.2 use technology to organize and display data in a problem-solving context C.7.1.2 summarize data by picking key words from gathered information and by using jottings, point form or retelling C.7.3.2 make connections among related, organized data, and assemble various pieces into a unified message F.6.3.4 demonstrate the ability to control devices electronically
ED3508 Scholarly Inquiry Anne Haaland Rationale for Computer Integration: By using technology the students can explore space in its whole, which is not possible any other way. These interactive websites also creates a sort of play-zone which makes it fun for the students to learn. Search Strategies Employed: 1. Define the problem 2. Use of unique phrase 3. Spell carefully, and consider alternative spellings 4. Avoid redundant terms References: Solar system scope. (n.d.).
