Iowa County Literacy Council Receives $2,500 AT&T
Innovation Award to Support Tutoring Programs

AT&T Funding Will Support Councils Mission to Help Dodgeville
Area Residents Have the Literacy Skills to Reach Their Full Potential
DODGEVILLE, Tuesday, October 7, 2014 The Iowa County Literacy Council was presented with a $2,500
AT&T Innovation & Investment Award today to support tutoring programs to address adult and family literacy
needs at the Dodgeville agency.

The AT&T donation will help support the Iowa County Literacy Councils mission to help all residents in
Dodgeville and the surrounding communities have the literacy skills to reach their full potential.

Funding for adult literacy has become more difficult to locate, and therefore extremely competitive, making it
hard for small councils like our Iowa County agency to survive, said Kathy Korb of the Iowa County Literacy
Council. We are very grateful for this funding from AT&T, which will make a huge impact for our Council and
those we serve.

The $2,500 AT&T donation will help the Iowa County Literacy Council fund several different aspects of its
budget, including gas cards for students and tutors to attend classes, books and materials for adult students,
and a tablet for Internet use.

The Iowa County Literacy Council is located in a rural area and works diligently to serve residents in
Dodgeville and surrounding communities. Many of the Councils adult learners work and live on farms, and
often do not have transportation. In 2012-13, the Council served 31 students and supported 25 volunteer
tutors who donated 1,250 hours of instruction, helping their adult students become more engaged at home,
with their childrens schools, and with their work.

The Iowa County Literacy Council is doing important work to help strengthen Wisconsins families and
communities through literacy, said State Rep. Howard Marklein (R-Spring Green). It is wonderful to see
companies like AT&T supporting their mission to enhance adult literacy.

We are very proud to support the efforts of the Iowa County Literacy Council to improve lives and provide a
statewide voice for adult literacy, said Scott T. VanderSanden, president of AT&T Wisconsin. As a
company, AT&T is committed to investing in education and helping develop and prepare our workforce for
future success.

The AT&T Wisconsin Innovation & Investment Award program provides funding to local organizations that
enhance and give back to their communities. The program is focused on awarding grants to organizations and
programs that improve the community by advancing education, enhancing the environment, promoting
economic development or delivering other community services.
