This Thursday October 2, our reading program begins. Kids
will take one or two books in his purple duotang. He/she will keep and read the books for about one week. The following Thursday, he/she will be evaluated for his/her progress in reading. Fieldtrips for this year: November 17 & 18 : Royal Alberta Museum - Les insectes ; November 26 : Telus World of Science - Le magnetisme; January : Alberta Art Gallery ; April 29 : Edmonton Symphony Orchestra; May : Strathcona County Museum & Archives - Children's Festival ; June : Swimming at Kinsmen Centre - Strathcona Wilderness Centre *tentative year-end party*
October Curriculum: French Language Arts: - We are beginning home reading program, please read the letter that will be sent home in purple reading duotang. - The dicte words will go home every Tuesday. A test will be given on the following Friday. Please sign the booklet and send it back with the student for the following Monday. -Maths: Finish the unit of patterns and begin the number (o-100). Student will review numbers from 0-100; skip counting by 10, 5, 2, 1. Kids can have fun by enjoying practicing counting with a partner(s) or counting down the time on microwave (from 60 to 0 second). -Sciences: continue with the unit of insects and explore conditions for the care of small animals. We will often go outside to look for some insects we can catch. -Social Studies: will continue with exploring map, and directions; (ex. map of school or a map of home to school) -Health: Strategies & practices on how to show respect, responsibility and be a good role model (BRR). Important dates: Oct. 1st: short Day, early out 2:15 p.m. Oct. 2: Home Reading Program begins Oct. 7: Dicte words go home Oct. 6-10: Read-In week Oct. 9: Family Reading 2-3pm ( all parents are welcome to come to school and read with your child) Oct. 10: PD Day (no school) Oct.13: Thanksgiving (No School) Oct. 16: picture Retakes Oct. 22 & 23: Parent Teacher Interviews and Book Fair. Oct 31: Halloween Parade (1 pm)
