Final Project Report
Intro
The goal of this fnal project to uild a simple optical signaling device that
lights a red !E" #hen one utton is pushed and green !E" #hen another
utton is pushed$ The signal determining either the red or green light must
e transmitted #irelessly or via an optical signal$
Designing Experiment
The frst part of this project that #e decided to #ork on #as the lo# pass and
high pass flter that #e #ould need to flter the incoming data to tell if the
incoming signal #as at our high fre%uency that #e chose to e &'(z or our
lo# fre%uency signal #hich #e chose to e &)) (z$ *e decided to design the
flters frst ecause #e had #ent over lots of e+amples of high and lo# pass
flters in lecture so #e used our lecture notes to design and implement our
high and lo# pass flters$ *hen #e had completed implementing our t#o
flters #e hooked them up to the function generator to see if the flters #ere
outputting the right values$ ,nce #e had the flters tested #e found that the
signals had some saturation at the very top of the signal so #e decided that
#e #ere going to put comparators at the end of our flters efore the output
reached the !E" so that #ould only light up at values really close to the
desired fre%uency that #e #anted it to light up at$

design along #ith our comparators and voltage amplifer$
The second part of the project that #e decided to #ork on #as our
oscillators$ *e got some help from TAs and #ere told to use a *ien Bridge
oscillator$ ,nce #e had found the schematic of ho# to design the *ien
Bridge oscillator #e calculated the values of capacitors and resistors that #e
#ould need to produce a &)) (z signal and &'(z$ *hen #e had found the
values for our capacitors and resistors #e implemented our circuit on our
readoard$ After #e had the t#o oscillators uilt #e hooked them up to the
oscilloscope to see if they #ere oscillating at the right fre%uencies and that
once #e s#itched the po#er to the other oscillator that it #ouldnEt put out a
signal that #ould e picked up y the lo#er:higher flter$

The aove image is the circuit design of our oscillator circuit the #e hooked
up to our infrared !E"$
Testing:
,nce #e had all our circuits calculated out and implemented on our
readoards #e then tested the circuits$ *e hooked up the po#er supplies to
each readoard and proceeded to Fip the s#itch et#een the t#o
oscillators and see the !E"s light up$ *hen testing #e found that our circuit
#ould only operate at a distance of aout one foot apart$

readoard$

Conclusion:
Gn this fnal project #e learned ho# to take some of the small circuit elements
#e learned aout in la throughout the semester and implement them in a
larger more comple+ circuit that could e used in practical applications$ *e
got a etter understanding aout ho# oscillators and flters can e used in a
more comple+ circuits$
