Teaching and Learning Activities Teacher may edit, change or add activities as needed Evaluation Week 1 - Revise concept and spelling of Bossy e rule. This was taught during term 3 so students are familiar with spelling pattern and sound. Use letter tiles to manipulate sound, add and take away e while saying the different phoneme blends/words to consolidate the long vowel sound. Play Trash or Treasure to identify real or nonsense words using the Bossy e.
Week 2 - Phonics: Revise igh and wh sound, identify initial and medial sounds and name some words these sounds may appear in. Spelling: Highlight other sounds/spellings for igh sound. Use 3 & 4 phoneme frames for students to segment words into phonemes, replace one or more letters in list words to create a new word.
Week 3 - Phonics: Revise tch and oa sound, identify initial and medial sounds and name some words these sounds may appear in. Spelling: Rainbow writing (vowels and consonants in different colours), dictionary definitions of selected words.
Week 4- Phonics: Revise ea and st sound, identify initial and medial sounds and name some words these sounds may appear in. Spelling: Find more words with (ea) sound but different spelling.
Week 5 - Phonics: Revise ew and ly sound, identify initial and medial sounds and name some words these sounds may appear in. Spelling: Water or chalk writing (alternatively sand or magnetic letters), write words in alphabetical order.
Week 6 - Phonics: Revise ow and es sound, identify initial and medial sounds and name some words these sounds may appear in. Spelling: Complete word search for list words, replace one or more letters in list words to create a new word.
Week 7 - Phonics: Revise ie and ck sound, identify initial and medial sounds and name some words these sounds may appear in. Spelling: Write words replacing vowels with a star then ask partner to decipher words, spell words in counters/sticks etc
Week 8 Spelling: Rainbow writing (double letters in different colours), dictionary definitions of selected words.
