Term 4 will hold two major exciting and fun events for the students where the focus will be on active play and outdoor learning as well as the fundamental movement skills which are both part of the Stage 2 PDHPE curriculum. Event: Games Day Date: 24th of October 2014 Location: School ground and oval Attire: PE Full School Uniform Lunch: Students are to bring their own lunch and drinks. Please bring sunscreen, a water bottle and a cap on this day. Students without a cap will be unable to participate in Games Day. What will happen on this day? The Games Day will consist of the entire school participating in team sports where there will be game set-ups for every stage. All students must participate in these games as this will be reflected in the reports on the child's abilities to perform basic movements and the students will receive a Certificate of Completion once they have completed the required activities. The games will be focused on fundamental movement skills where a warm-up activity will consist of performing the skill followed by a team game. The games include the skills of basketball, cricket and football where the aim will be to focus on throwing/catching, two-hand strike, sprinting, dodging and kicking. If there are any concerns, feel free to contact the class teacher on the contact page or see them personally in class. Learning Outcomes for Games Day 1. By participating in Games Day, students will develop their fundamental movement skills through basic movements as well as modified team games which will enable them to become confident and competent young movers. 2. INS2.3 Makes positive contributions in group activities Games Day will involve high levels of interaction with peers as the games are all team-work based. The students will be given modification of games, where they will interact as a team or individually to come up with tactics allowing for tactical thinking as well as critical thinking. Students will show tolerance and be respectful with their peers in relation to their abilities/disabilities as well as culture. 3. DMS2.2 Makes decisions as an individual and as a group member. As Games Day will be based greatly on team-work, decision making is a vital consideration for all students. This is where the students will think "How must I do it?" and "what must I do in order to succeed this situation?" which follows the 'Games Sense Approach Model.'
Event: Nature Incursion Date: 31st of October 2014 Location: In School Attire: PE Full School Uniform Lunch: Students are to bring their own lunch and drinks Please bring sunscreen, a water bottle and a cap on this day. Students without a cap will be unable to participate in the Nature Incursion. What will happen on this day? 4N students will have 1 hour incursion in the school area and school grounds where the focus will be on outdoor learning. The 1 hour period will consist of students going in nature and experiencing nature. The students will take their workbooks and a pencil to record what they saw, felt, smelt and heard. of trees, picking up stones and sticks while feeling their texture (hard, soft, squishy, dry, wet). The students will be closely under the supervision of their class teacher and the teacher will take them in different areas after every 20 minutes. The 20 minutes would include taking part in nature as well as recording their experiences. If your child has allergic reactions to certain substances, please inform the class teacher via email on the contact page or see them personally in class. Learning Outcomes for Games Day 1. PSS2.5 Uses a range of problem-solving strategies. The students will use their problem-solving skills when analysing their senses (see, smell, touch and hear) as well as when recognising the textures of different things related to nature (grass, rocks, pebbles, water). They will identify goals of the activity while coming up with the steps to reach a solution i.e. taking part in the activity, experiencing nature and recording results. 2. SLS2.13 Discusses how safe practices promote personal wellbeing. It is essential that all students will listen to the instructions given by their teacher as well as follow school rules in order to stay safe during the incursion. This will enable children to identify safe/unsafe situations as well as explain the need for having school rules and listening carefully. 3. DMS2.2 Makes decisions as an individual and as a group member. The incursion will allow the students to make decisions individually based on their experiences allow them to think critically while writing down their responses. The students will also clarify the reasons for making the decision they have made ultimately providing reflection. It is important that all students participate in these activities as they are highly beneficial for them which will help them develop their psychical skills, well- being and knowledge.
