Why nuclear power plants should not be build

Nuclear Energy is defned as an eco-friendly power plant. This means that it

does not emit any pollutants to the environment, including C!. "t can produce
large amounts of energy, even more than in solar power or wind farms. #or
instance, in $%&, about !'( of the electricity is provided by nuclear power
plants. "n fact, about a )*( of the electricity around the world is generated by
nuclear power plants. Even though, Nuclear energy suppose to be an
economic and clean renewable energy it involves important ris+s to the
personnel and the community leaving near this enormous facilities. ,esides,
not only it has an impact in people, but also in animal life. %ome important
reason why a nuclear power plant should not be build are the impact on wild
life, the impact on people-s health and the cost-e.ectiveness of build a nuclear
plant.
To begin, a nuclear power plant has an impact on wild life in terms of animals-
ecosystem. Nuclear power plants use water in the process of heating and
cooling down the reactors, for, there are big conducts pipes that swallow up
water. Even though this facilities place stationary screens to prevent that adult
fshes become suc+ by the flters, some animals li+e sea turtles and seals get
trapped and drown. &dditionally, microscopic plan+ton is continuously
engulfed, and this interferes with the habitat and the nutritional chain of fauna
living there. $nfortunately this is not the only way in which the a/uatic life is
a.ected. "n occasions, nuclear plants discharge polluted water into surrounding
bodies of water, or store waste on the ground. #or instance, in !''0 the
1ewaunee nuclear power plant resorted to storing waste on its grounds close to
2a+e.
%econdly, the impact on people-s health is e3tremely related to nuclear waste.
Nuclear waste is the fuel that results after uranium has been used as primary
element in a reactor to produce this type of energy. The spent fuel, which is
immensely dangerous, remains at least for more than one hundred years4
"ndeed, if anyone has direct contact with radioactive material that person could
die in a few days by radiation poisoning. This means that person is going to die
in the ne3t !5 hours, because the radiation interferes with the normal division
of the cells. "n fact, some researches had found out that the population near
those facilities has increased about )' times the cases of death by breast
cancer and leu+emia.
#inally, one of the main reasons is the cost-e.ectiveness of build a nuclear
plant. "t is believed that by having a nuclear plant, the amount of money that a
surrounded community would have to pay for the electricity ta3 will decrease.
6owever it is not the case. The e3orbitant costs of build and maintain a nuclear
plant is greatly e3pensive and ta+e a long time, at least )' years. 7oreover,
nuclear waste also re/uires a specifc colossal area for storage, which is both,
high priced and dangerous. "t seems to be that the future savings in electricity
ta3es needs to be paid before the pro8ect carries out.
