Dear Parents and Cheerleaders,

Thank you for your interest in the 2014/2015 Competitive Cheer Team. We are very excited about the upcoming
season and hope to get the program moving in a positive direction. We feel that our coaching staff is extremely
educated about this sport and the MHSAA format through many years of coaching as well as attending seminars,
coachs camps and the Competitive Cheer Coaches Association of Michigan Fall Summit.

In case you arent sure what the MHSAA format entails, below is a description of each round and how they are
judged.

Round 1
This round is to create a routine with different arm motions, floor movements, and level changes. It must contain
at least 2 different jumps and must have a minimum of 6 different formations. The routine may contain jumps,
kicks, level changes, peel-offs and arm motions but absolutely cannot have any type of gymnastic skill or stunt. The
teams are judged on vocals, jumps, team coordination, execution, difficulty and variety, general impression and
creativity.

Round2
This round is done entirely in unison, meaning that each member must be doing the exact same thing at all times.
The cheer performed must start with a 10 count precision drill determined by the MHSAA and must also contain 5
different skills. These skills are chosen from 3 different categories; jumps, tumbling and flexibility and must contain
at least one from each category. The round will be judged by the precision drill, each skill performed, floor
mobility, vocals and team coordination. Because this is the most difficult round to coordinate, this will be the first
one taught. In order to be put into this round you must have the skills that are being used. No exceptions!

Round 3
This is an open stunting and tumbling round. This cheer may contain jumps, stunts, tumbling, skills, level changes,
peel-offs, kicks and any other legal cheer skills, however it cannot contain any music or dance. The round must
include a minimum of 7 different formation changes as well as a team tumbling skill (each member must perform a
tumbling skill in unison). The teams are judged on each skill, each stunt (variety, difficulty & execution), floor
mobility, vocals, team coordination and general impression.

Just like many other sports in the MHSAA formats, not everyone will be on the floor at all times. As coaches we will
choose the girls that we feel will work the best for each round. Because of the chance of injury, illness or other
unforeseen circumstances, there will be a bench this season. This will help prevent having to change entire
routines due to the loss of a cheerleader. With that being said, just because you may be in a round at some point
doesnt mean you will always be in the round and vice versa, you may not be in the round but if you become
prepared you can take someone elses position or be added at any time. It is up to you to learn all of the material
and be prepared for any situation. Because we are division 2 we are required to have 10 girls on the floor in round
2 but can have up to 16 on the floor in rounds 1 & 3. Attendance for this season is crucial. If you miss at any point
for any reason there is a high chance that you will lose your spot for competitions that we are training for. It is very
difficult to work on formation changes and we are not able to work on any round when girls are missing.
