This strategy is used as game to promote recognition and identification of vocabulary words. One student would pick a vocabulary word and the class would ask yes/no questions to the student with the word to try to figure out what the word is. Each student can ask one question each so the whole class can participate. The questions would go from general questions and work its way up to more specific questions.
How you plan to use this strategy in your Practicum, Internship, Student Teaching, or in your own classroom:
I like this idea because it will bring excitement to the classroom. Any competition motivates higher participation rates from the students, at least from what I have been seeing in my internship. I think I would use this strategy as part of a review before a test. Also, I would modify that students can ask less questions to guess the word so there would be more time for more words. Another modification would be to have a hat with pre-picked vocab words for the student being asked the questions.
For example:
Vocab word picked: photosynthesis
Question1: Does this word have anything to do with animals? Question2: Does this word have anything to do with plants? Question3: Does it have something to do with the plant cell? Question4: Does it have a nucleus? Question5: Does it have anything to do with sunlight?
