What is Persuasive Writing?
A piece of writing in which the writer uses
specific convincing words to try and convince
the reader that the writers words are
correct on the topic.
Example: I am going to write a persuasive essay
on homework and the negative effects it has on
students. My job is to try and persuade you as
the reader that I am correct.
Outline
1. State your thesis- what is your topic that you
are trying to persuade? Overall Argument
2. Reasons- what are your main points? (at least
two arguments)
3. Evidence- to support your thesis (data and
facts)
4. Counterclaim- a claim that disagrees with your
thesis (the opposite stance).
5. Weakness- evidence that rebuttals the
counterclaim.
6. Strong closing
