Writing Applications (Genres and
their Characteristics)
California Writing Standard 2.1
Write brief narratives based on their experiences:
Move through a logical sequence of events.
Describe the setting, characters, objects, and
events in detail
The Blog Website
Students will create their own Blog website
where they will write daily journal entries.
The teacher will choose the topic of the journal
entries.
Students have a free journal entry on Fridays
to write about a topic of their choice.
Learning Objectives
Students will learn to create a website.
Write in Complete sentences with subject/verb
agreement.
Use correct capitalization and punctuation.
Use the correct form of regular words
Apply phonics skills when spelling unfamiliar
words

Example Blog
At Home & In the Classroom
The blog allows students to work on their skills
from the classroom or from the comfort of their
home.
Students will have a user name and password
to access their blog.
The link to student blogs will be posted on the
classroom website for students and parents to
use.
Learning Outcomes
Students Writing:
Is generally reflective
Demonstrates clarity and variety in language
Ideas are connected
Properly uses punctuation
Proper sentence structure is used
Use of correct spelling
Conclusion
Students will master writing skills through the
use of their online blog journal.
This every day task allows students adequate
time to develop their skills.
Students will enjoy writing more because thy
have created their own space in which to do
so.
The online blog helps keep students focused
and engaged in their work.
