Recently, relevant advances have been accomplished in the field of seismic design of precast concrete
structures. The purpose of the seminar is to provide an overview of the extensive experimental and
theoretical research activities carried out at European level over the last two decades to investigate
the seismic performance of precast concrete structures and to promote and validate the seismic
design criteria currently incorporated in the design codes. Well established methodologies and
procedures, as well as open issues that need to be addressed in both research and applications, will be
discussed. Specific attention will be devoted to clarify the role of the fastening system of the cladding
wall panels in the seismic response of precast buildings, with emphasis on the advantages provided by
innovative systems of dissipative connections.
