Reading: Cat Traps
This week, we read Yes, I Want Some Too and
Cat Traps. We also learned about making
inferences. Next week, our phonics story will be
My Buddy Stan and the comprehension story will
be Biscuit. The reading skill we will be focusing on
is main idea. We will begin reviewing short u
words and initial s blends.
Writing: Informational Writing
This week, we learned more about nouns,
pronouns, and introduced proper nouns. We are
still focusing on informational and how-to writings.
Math: Measurement
This week, we explored a pumpkin by estimating
and measuring the height, width, number of lines,
and the number of seeds. We also introduced
nonstandard measurement. Students participated
in a variety measuring activities in the classroom
and practiced with making estimations. We will
take our measurement assessment next Friday.
Social Studies: Benjamin Franklin
We learned about Benjamin Franklin through
reading about him in our Social Studies Weekly
Readers, American Heroes book, and listening to
a Pebble Go Biography about him. We learned
how to answer questions by looking at information
from the text and sequenced a timeline of his life.
Next week, we will be studying Thomas Jefferson.
