Natural Disasters

What is a natural disaster?

Natural disaster is a disaster that wasn't cause by mankind. It is a disaster
caused naturally, like a tsunami. Any event or force of nature that has
catastrophic consequences, such as an avanlanche, a destructive event
that affects the natural world and human communities.
Some natural disasters
Floods
Earthquake
Cyclone
Tsunami
Avalanches
Tornadoes
Wildfires
Avalanche
An avalanche is any amount of snow sliding down a mountainside. It can
be compared to a landslide, only with snow instead of earth. Another
common term for avalanche is snowslide. As an avalanche becomes
nearer to the bottom of the slope, it gains speed and power, this can
cause even the smallest of snowslides to be a major disaster.
Floods
A flood is the submerging with water of a normally dry area. Floods are
caused by many things, including rainstorms, slow water run-off,
earthquakes, broken dams, underwater volcanic eruptions and tsunamis,
or hurricanes.
Earthquake
An earthquake is a shaking of the ground caused by the sudden breaking
and movement of large sections (tectonic plates) of the earth's rocky
outermost crust. The edges of the tectonic plates are marked by faults (or
fractures). Most earthquakes occur along the fault lines when the plates
slide past each other or collide against each other.
Tsunami
A tsunami (pronounced tsoo-NAH-mee) is a series of waves, made in an
ocean or other body of water by an earthquake, landslide, volcanic
eruption , or meteorite impact. Tsunamis can cause huge destruction
when they hit coastlines. Some people call tsunamis tidal waves, but
these large waves really have little to do with tides, so the term tidal
wave does not really suit them.
