MAJORS & MINORS

AVAILABLE AT
WESTERN
By: Miranda Jane
College degree levels in order
Associates = 2 year degree
Bachelors = 4 year degree OR associates + 2 years
Masters = bachelors + 2 years (coursework, maybe thesis)
PhD = bachelors + masters + 2-6 years (original research, dissertation)

MD (medical) = bachelors + 4 years med school
JD (law) = bachelors + 3 years law school

You don't have to do an associates before a bachelors, but you can if you want to.
You usually need to complete a masters before doing the PhD, but many PhD
programs will give you a masters while you work on the PhD (and some let you
skip it completely).
