Three
levelstudyguidesareagreatstrategyforalllevelsofstudentsbecauseofthe
varyingdegreeofskillsrequiredtoanswerthequestions.Thefirstlevelofquestionsis
explicitlyfoundinthetextsostudentswhostrugglewithcomprehensioncanfeela
senseofaccomplishmentbyansweringthesequestions.Thesecondlevelofquestions
requiresabitmoreadvancedcomprehensionskills.Theyarealittleharderthanthefirst
levelbutcanstillbefoundinthetext.Thethirdlevelofquestionsgoesbeyondthetext
andrequiresstudentstoapplywhattheyhavereadtootherconcepts.Thislevel
requiresadvancedcomprehensionskillsandmaybedifficultforstrugglingreaders,but
thelayoutoftheworksheetprovidesasmooth,gradualtransitionfromeasytodifficult.
Studentsareprovidedquestionssothepurposeforthereadingissetbeforetheyread
thetext.Duringthereading,theyareguidedthroughthetextbythethreelevelsof
questions.Afterthereading,thestudentsdiscusstheiranswersasaclass,providingan
opportunitytoreinforcewhattheyhavereadandforclarification.
