1.Militarism: The aggressive build up of the Armed forces to intermediate and threaten
other nations.Also,that was one of the main causes of the world war one.Every nation
was waiting something to happen and every nation was ready for it.

2.Nationalism: Feeling of intense pride in ones homeland.Also, that was another main
cause that makes the WWI begin and this was a powerful idea in Europe.Each nation
viewed other as competitors and many was willing to go to war to expand their nation.

3.Balkans: In 1800s nationalism led to a crisis in southeastern Europe in a region
known as Balkans. It was controlled by Austria Hungary and Ottoman Empire.Both of
these empires were made up of many different nations.

4.Franz Ferdinand: In june 1914,Archduke visited the Bosnian capital of sarajevo.he
assassinated thier by an organization called the Black Hand .This organization were
from serbia that was wanting to gain its freedom from Austria Hungary.This was the
shortly main cause that makes the WWI to start.

5.Propoganda: Information designed to influence opinion used by Germans and British
to convey U.S to join them during WWI.Also used by American as well to sell the war to
the American people and to join the Army.

6.Contraband: Goods prohibited from shipment to Germany and it allies.This caused
the starvation of a lot of people in germany and that's happened due to the blockade
that british did.

7.Sussex pledge: It promised with a certain conditions to sink no more merchant ships
without warning and that met the foreign policy goals of states out of the war a little
longer.

8.Zimmermann Telegram: Stated that if Mexico agreed to become an ally of German
in a war with the United States, Germany promised Mexico would regain its Lost
Territory in Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. After the war.

9.War Industries Board: Established in July 1917 to coordinate the production of war
materials. The WIB told manufactures what they could produce , allocated raw materials
ordered the construction of new factories, and in a few instances,set prices.


10.Victory Gardens: A place where the families begin to grow their own vegetables in it
in order to conserve food for the soldiers during the war.

11.National War Lavor Board: established in March in 1918. Chaired by Williams
Howard Taft and Frank Walsh.The NWLB attempt to mediate labor disputes that might
otherwise led to strikes.

12.Committee On Public Information: Established by the president Wilson. To sell the
war to the American people.They used the propaganda to sway the public opinion in
favor of war.

13.Espionage: Spying to acquire government information. This Act made it illegal to
aide the enemy, give false reports or interfere with the war effort.

14.Selective Service: Established in 1917, required all men between 21 to 30 to
register for the draft.After this act about 28 million Americans were drafted.

15.No mans land: The space between opposing trenches.It was rough barren
lanscape filled with craters from alltiraly fire. It named by this name because no man
could fight there or he will be killed.

16.Convoys: SIMS proposed that merchant ships and troops transports be gathered
into groups called convoys.Small highly maneuverable warships called destroyers
would protect and escort the convoys across the atlantic.

17.J ohn J . Pershing: commander of the American Expeditionary Force (AEF), arrived
in paris, he and his officers headed to Picpus Cemetery where lafayette was buried.He
was the only one who controlling the American soldiers he didnt let France or British tell
the U.s Army what they suppose and not suppose to do.

18.Armistice: A truce, or an agreement to stop fighting. This was between Germany
and Russia because Russia decided to stop fighting and leave , in order to do that
Russia lost some of its territory to Germany.

19.Treaty of versailles: A peace treaty negotiated and signed by 27 countries.This
treaty ended WWI and it called by this name because the conference was at the palace
of the versailles in France. they ending up blaming Germany for everything and for
starting the war.

20.Fourteen points: A peace plan brought by wilson and he presented it to the
congress in january 1918 to explain the goals of the United Stated in the war. Wilson
believed that this plan will establish the conditions for lasting peace in Europe.

21.National Self Determination: the idea that the borders of countries should be based
on ethnicity and national identity.A group of people believed that when borders are not
based on national identity, border disputes will occur and nations are more likely to go
to war to resolve them.

23.League of nations: That was what Wilsons favored the most.The league of nations
would help preserve peace by pledging to respect and protect each others territory and
political independence.Wilson was willing to give up in the fourteen points in exchange
for support for the league.

24.Rearations: Monetary compensation for all of the war damage it had caused and
that what must Germany pay, Germany must pay three billion dollars and because of
that Germany entered in a series great depression and economic problems later
because of this money.

25.Cost of living: In 1919 prices rose more than 15 percent. Inflation greatly increased
the coast of food, clothing shelter,and other essentials that people need to survive.

26.General Strike: Is a strike that involves all workers in a community not just workers
in particular industries.More than 60,000 people involved in this strike and paralyzed the
city for five days.

27.Calvin Coolidge: Riots and looting soon erupted in the city which forcing the
Governor Calvin to call in the national guard and he fired the strikers and hired a new
police force instead.

28:Red Scare: The strikes of 1919 fueled fears that communists or reds might seize
the power. This led to a nationwide panic.

29.A Mitchell Palmer: Attorney General who damaged the home of the United
States.Most people believed the bombings were the work of radicals trying to destroy
the American way of life.

30. J . Edgar Hoover: The intelligence division headed by him and he eventually
became the Federal Bureau of investigation (FBI) and he was the first director of the
Federal Bureau of investigation of the united states as well.

31.Deported: Expel individuals from the country.In the Spring of 1920 about 600 people
were deported because of the sidition law that makes it illegal to join groups advocating
revoloution.
