Energy created from the movement of wind across the earth.
A result of heating of our oceans, earth and atmosphere by the sun. What purpose does it serve? To change wind into Kinetic energy for an alternative source of electricity. Equipment needed for wind energy? Wind mills, wind turbines , and electrical cords to move the energy from place to place. How is the energy stored and used? Right now there is no way on storing this energy at the moment but there is companies working on it, the leading company is a company is Massachusetts that is working on using flywheels to store up to 20 megawatts of electricity. How does wind energy work? A blade acts much like an airplane wing. When the wind blows, a pocket of low-pressure air forms on the downwind side of the blade. The low-pressure air pocket then pulls the blade toward it, causing the rotor to turn. This is called lift. The force of the lift is actually much stronger than the wind's force against the front side of the blade, which is called drag. The combination of lift and drag causes the rotor to spin like a propeller, and the turning shaft spins a generator to make electricity. What is a wind farm? A wind farm is a group of wind turbines in the same location used to produce electric power. Big wind farms in Canada are Amaranth Wind Farm- 199.5 MW located in Ontario Wolfe Island Wind Project- 197MW located in Ontario Potential of this power? -Global wind power has doubled over the last 3 years, which now accounts for 2% of the worlds electricity production, and as much as 20% in some countries
Info of wind energy in Newfoundland In 2006, Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro (Hydro) took significant steps toward the integration of wind generation into the provincial electricity system. Today, there are two wind farms operating in Newfoundland which generate up to 54 megawatts (MW) of wind energy. Nalcor Energy is also in the process of commissioning 300 kilowatts of wind power as part of its WindHydrogenDiesel energy project in the community of Ramea, on the southwest coast of Newfoundland. Where to buy wind turbines in Newfoundland? Canada tire ,Walmart ,Newfoundlands energy Below is a picture of Fermeuse Wind Project in Newfoundland In 2008, Hydro signed a 20-year power purchase agreement for a 27 MW wind farm located in the community of Fermeuse on the Southern Shore, Avalon Peninsula. The project consists of nine, Vestas V90, 3 MW turbines. The project began supplying wind energy in April 2009
