Sam Walton: Founder of Walmart
History
Walmart started a small discount retailer in Rogers, Ark., and since then opened
thousands of stores in the U.S. and expanded internationally. Sam opened the first Walmart in
1962 at the age of 44 in Rogers, Arkansas. With experienced in the retail business Mr. Walton
has a vision to change the face of retail and so he did. He believed in leadership through service.
This belief that true leadership depends on willing service was the principle on which Walmart
was built, and drove the decisions the company has made for the past 50 years. So much of
Walmarts history is tied to the story of Sam Walton himself, and so much of our future will be
rooted in Mr. Sams principles.

Product and services:
Walmart is consider a Mass Merchant because they provide a variety of product and
services. Walmart offers a variety of services, including retail goods, pharmacy, financial,
wireless, mechanic and photo lab services. Products varies from household, furniture, grocery,
cleaning supplies, toys, electronics, beauty supplies, clothing, books, health, etc.
