ISS Project
In my ninth grade digital literacy class we completed the ISS project. In this project we
were required to inform others on how to protect themselves and be safe online. We had to
research facts and statistics based on the type of information we were going to present. How
we delivered this information and in what form was our choice; our group decided to do a
presentation in the form of a prezi. Throughout this project we were allowed to work in a
group, I worked with Lilly Montes, Jacqueline Hernandez, Jasmine Olivares, Odalis Contreras,
Carolina Rios, Edilberto Veronica, and Ruben Vargas. We decided to present to sixth grade
classes in the middle school. The purpose of this project was to help us develop skills such as
speaking to an audience. Overall, the presentation we gave to our audience was to help them
stay safe online and give them awareness about the internet community.
There were a few GLPOs met in the making of this project. The first GLPO met was in
the category of Investigating The World; what we did as a group was identify a regionally
focused issue and explored questions about it. One of the questions we explored was How
could someone online be safe or prevent the happening of harassment? Another GLPO met
was in the category of Communicating Ideas. I was developing in selecting and using
appropriate technology and media to communicate with diverse audiences. This was achieved
because we used a computer presentation to communicate our ideas to different audiences
which were sixth grade classes. Those were the GLPOs met in the completion of this project.
There were many skills learned and practiced in the completion of this project. The main
skill we practiced was researching, distinguishing and using reliable information that was found
online. Another skill we learned was to effective communication. We communicated effectively
by informing the sixth grade teachers that we wanted to present to their class and telling them
what time and place. A great skill we were able to practice was speaking in front of an
audience. We also learned how to make an effective as well as informative presentation. We
accomplished this by making a prezi. Those were all the skills learned in the making of this
project.
Looking back I think I would only change a few things about the project. The main thing
I would change is to interact more with the audience while presenting our presentation. I feel I
should have asked the audience more questions because now that I look back I realized my
partner and I were straight forward with our information. Another thing I would have done is
rehearsed the presentation more before I actually delivered it because I remember I felt
nervous while presenting. Overall I like the outcome of this whole project.
