Beer Making!

Brew 1: True Brew American Wheat Kit (extract)


Stats: Original gravity:
1.048
Final gravity:
1.020
March 21, 2011:
Clean and sanitized brewpot, spoons, hydrometer, bubbler, fermenter, lid,
measuring cup, yeast jar.
Put malt cans in pot of hot water
Boiled 1.5 gallons of water in brewpot (used measuring cup to measure)
Open malt cans, slowly pour and stir
Added 1oz. Hop Pellets while stirring. Dissolve completely
o Smells like brown rice syrup and grass. Sweet but green and earthy
Resume heat at high 8:37pm
o Began boil at 8:55pm until 9:25pm
Reconstitute yeast in glass mason jar with 1 cup warm-hot water
3 gallons (measured by markings on fermenter) of cold water in fermenting
bucket
Cooled wort in bathtub for 8 minutes
Combined
Added yeast at 9:50pm
o Stirred at 10:00pm
May have stirred too much
Original gravity: 1.048
Finished process at 10:12pm
No bubbling by 11:58pm
March 22, 2011:
Very little bubbling at 11:47am
Large bubbled showing in bubbler couple times per minute at 10:50pm
March 24, 2011:
Series of 2-3 large bubbles every 5 seconds at 5:36am
Series of 2-3 large bubbles every 5 seconds at 10:40am
Bubbling has stopped for the most part. Still bubbles violently when pushed.

March 25, 2011:
148 seconds between bubbles at 1:20pm
April 8, 2011:
Racked into bottling bucket
Ending Gravity: 1.020
April 9, 2011:
Began bottling process
Sanitized and cleaned bottle caps, bottles, brush, siphon
Bottled 47 12oz. bottles
Bucket had about 2 full bottles left in
Taste was fairly smooth with a slight bitterness (Taster 1)
Beer lacked first taste but had a normal-strength wheaty aftertaste
