a. Colonialism

social and cultural changes.
b. Census
An official enumeration of the population, with details as to age, gender,
occupation, etc.
c. Survey;
to take a general or comprehensive view of a situation, area of study, etc.

2. Why do we divide history into various chapters?


Ans.

We divide history into various chapters to give each chapter some


coherence.

It is to tell a story in a way that makes some sense and can be


followed.

In this process we focus only on those events that help us to give


shape to the story we are telling.

3. What di d James Mill feel about British rule over India?

British rule, Mill felt, could civilize India.

To do this it was necessary to introduce European manners, arts,


institutions and laws in India.

He suggested that the British should conquer all the territories in India

map the entire country.
