MAMA:

The movie mama is recent 2013 supernatural horror fantasy film. Andrs
Muschietti both directed and has co-written the movie based on his short
2008 film Mam. This means that the movie would have already secured an
audience. As the director himself reproduced his short movie. The film
stars Jessica Chastain and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and is produced by
Zandy Federico and co-writer Brbara Muschietti, with Guillermo del
Toro serving as executive producer. Originally set for an October 2012
release, it was released in theaters on 18 January 2013.
The film is about two young girls abandoned in a forest cabin, ;fostered by
a supernatural being they call mama. After they are found they are taken
to their uncles home where mama follows.
The setting of the abandoned cabin is desolate, old and in the middle of the
woods. It looks hunted and creepy with trees surrounding it making it
darker. Having a middle of nowhere building creates a scary creepy
atmosphere, which most horror movies tend to have.

Binary oppositions of good and evil: mama is the evil spirit, while the
little girl and their aunty fight for good.
Darken places: in the new house mama appears playing with the children
at night. She hides in the closet in the girls room.
The theme in the movie represents a supernatural being trying to take over
two girls lives. Even though there are no blood or body parts, the film uses
flexibility and unnatural themes to make the movie scary. E.g. the girls
having a horrible past and the youngest girl whispering mama.
