AP Spanish Language and Culture

Course overview
The AP Spanish Language and Culture course is a rigorous course intended to
deliver a diverse and rich learning experience for the student. Through this
course, students will expand and continue to develop their reading, listening,
writing and speaking skills, along with increased vocabulary. In addition, a
more thorough understanding of grammatical concepts and Hispanic culture
will be explored. The class will be conducted almost entirely in Spanish and
students will be expected to speak Spanish in class, which will be reflected in
a class participation grade. Emphasis will be placed on interpretative,
interpersonal, and presentational modes of communication with the use of
authentic print, video, and audio sources. Students will continue to develop
proficiency using advanced vocabulary and linguistic structures toward the
pre-advanced level in all modes of communication.
AP Curricular requirements

[C1] The teacher uses Spanish almost

exclusively in class and encourages
students to do likewise.
[C2] Instructional materials include a
variety of authentic audio and video
recordings, authentic nonliterary texts
such as newspaper and magazine
articles, and a variety of authentic
literary texts.
[C3] The course provides
opportunities for students to
demonstrate their proficiency in
Spoken and Written Interpersonal
Communication in a variety of
situations in the Intermediate to PreAdvanced range.
[C4] The course provides
opportunities for students to
demonstrate their ability in
Interpretive Communication to
understand and synthesize
information from a variety of authentic
audio, visual, audiovisual, written, and
print resources.
[C5] The course provides
opportunities for students to

Technology, Contemporary Life,
Personal and Public Identities, Families
and Communities, and Beauty and
Aesthetics.
[C7] The course provides the
opportunity for students to
demonstrate an understanding of the
products, practices, and perspectives
of the target cultures.
[C8] The course provides
opportunities for students to make
comparisons between and within
languages and cultures.
[C9] The course prepares students to
use the target language in real-life
settings.
