Co-teaching Lesson
6/17/14
I co-taught a math lesson in Jessica Maiorannas first grade classroom. Jessica has 19
students in her classroom, two of them receive services for mathematics, and 4 students in the
classroom possibly are gifted in the area of mathematics. The lesson taught was a review lesson
for the students on the addition of three numbers. Jessica and I used two different forms of coteaching during the lesson, one teach and one assist, and parallel teaching. The lesson started
whole group where Jessica took the lead, because she is the students general education
teacher, and has been for most of the year. While Jessica was introducing the lesson, and
recalling strategies for three number addition, I walked around assisting students and Jessica as
needed. Making sure all students were paying attention, and following directions. The students
were then split into two heterogeneous groups. In my group were some of the students who
maybe gifted in mathematics, and one of the students who receives services for mathematics.
When the groups where split Jessica and I used parallel teaching, we both taught the same
topic, and instruction at the same time. At the end of the lesson, the class was pulled back to
whole group with Jessica as the lead teacher, while I assisted, and checked students work. The
students did a great job, they took very well to having another teacher in the classroom, and
they were excited about it. The students treated me as if I was their teacher and with
respected. The lesson went well. There were no behavior problems or distractions. I feel all
students were able to get the assistance they needed. Splitting the class into two groups was
helpful, it allowed for Jessica and me to reach all students needs efficiently and quickly. After

the lesson Jessica and I both went through the students worksheets to check work, and for
understanding. Overall most students completed the work without mistakes or difficulty.
