Demonstrate fluent, critical use of technological resources
Artifact 6.1a: District Technology Master Plan
Artifact 6.1b: District Technology Updates Artifact 6.2: Teacher, Classroom, and School Technology Ratings Reflection: As the youngest teacher in the school, I am more urgently concerned with the technological capabilities of the school because I can relate to technology as a prevalent part of the modern students daily life. As a teacher in general, I know that an effective way to increase engagement in the classroom is to leverage the things that students are doing and are interested in and include it in the curriculum. That is why I asked about technology during my hiring interview. Everyone knows that technology is an important part of getting students the 21st century skills they need for the working world, but it is important to have accountability on all sides for implementing the technology. That is why I remain aware of what the district is attempting to accomplish with technology. Along with anecdotal evidence from principal, APs and other teachers about district technology goals, I also look to official documents made available by the District. Since Measure S was passed, the district actually has the funding to update some of the technology so it is good time to keep checking on what technology updates will be taking place and when. Based on the information gathering that I do concerning the districts technology goals, I am then able to get a sense of what the district wants to do and what it is actually doing. Thus, I created some ratings for the district based on my perception about these two factors. Moreover, I have had the pleasure of observing teachers at multiple sites and of student teaching at a different site than my current full-time position. This gives me some insight about how the District is doing in comparison to other disctricts. For example, I have seen multiple school sites with wireless networks in places, while there are none here. I have also noticed that our photocopying system is more user-friendly and effective compared to other sites, and the ratings reflect this. But I also created ratings for myself because the districts actions are important only insofar as they affect the actual students, and that means the teacher has to be involved. Thus, I chronicle all of my skills with technology because that affects the curriculum students will experience. Although I do not have access to a great deal of technology, I am very good with using the technology that is available.
