Unit Evaluation

Comic Activity

What went well?
I was really pleased with how well the students were able to work in groups. I was
also happy with the explanations that groups gave for the order they chose.

What would I change the next time?
I dont think I did a good enough job explaining my expectations for when other
groups were presenting. There was a lot of talking while other groups were trying to
present that I had to try to quiet down every time a new group came up to present.
Next time I want to make it clear that while other groups presenting it should be
quiet because that group has the floor.

Lesson 2-1

What went well?
I was happy with my students ability to use their prior knowledge in finding new
terms in a numerical sequence. I got some good student participation with this
lesson.

What would I change the next time?
I dont think I made it clear enough that what students were doing when they
predicted the next terms was making a mathematical conjecture. Next time I would
make sure students had a better grasp of what a conjecture was.

Lesson 2-2

What went well?
Identifying the true values and parts of the conditional statements went really well.
Students also were also grasped the idea of writing related conditional statements
rather quickly.

What would I change the next time?
I would spend more time writing a conditional statement from a statement. I found
out later that students struggled with which part of the statement to use as the
hypothesis and what to use as the conclusion.

Lesson 2-3

What went well?
Identifying the conditional statements that make up a biconditional went well.
Students also we strong in identifying what definitions would be considered good
and which ones are considered bad definitions.

What would I change the next time?
I would spend more time explaining what a biconditional really is and what the if
and only if really means. I dont feel students fully grasped how much stronger a
biconditional statement really is.

Lesson 2-4

What went well?
Using the Law of Detachment and the Law of Syllogism independently went really
well. Students were able to look at statements and decide if a conclusion could be
made and what law of logic was being used.

What would I change the next time?
Next time I would spend time working on make conclusions from sets of statements
where both laws of reasoning had to be used.

Lesson 2-5

What went well?
Students saw that connections between the properties of equality and what they
have been doing for years in their math education. I think the connections helped
when we were starting the two column proofs in writing down the justifications that
we have been using for years.

What would I change the next time?
Next time I would try to do a better job explaining how the justifications fit in the
two-column proof. Things like, we have to use the property that shows what we are
actually doing. Also that the reasoning for how we went from 1 to 2 goes in spot 2 on
the reasoning side of the proof.

Lesson 2-6

What went well?
I was really happy with our ability to prove the vertical angle theorem. I think the
Geogebra proof of it really helped to solidify student understanding that the
theorem was true.

What would I change the next time?
I wish I would have spent more time using Geogebra to see that the other four
theorems did actually work instead of just trying to logically think through them.

Jeopardy Review

What went well?
I was really happy with how the socrative worked to gather student responses. I
also think it helped the students see what type of questions they should be expected
to do.

What would I change the next time?
Next time I think I would have smaller groups. I think the size of the groups that I
had used made it so that some people felt like they didnt need to contribute. I think
it allowed for enough people to pick up the slack for those who didnt want to
participate.

Overall Unit Reflection

What went well?
I was really happy with the growth that I saw throughout the chapter especially
since this is the first time students have seen a majority of this material. I really
liked how the activities throughout the unit supported students learning.

What would I change the next time?
I would like to be able to find some more activities to work into the unit. I had a hard
time finding activities online for this unit and I wasnt sure where additional support
would be needed. Now that I have taught the unit and identified where students
seemed to struggle I think it can find or create learning activities to support student
learning.
