Course Observation

Language: In this course, I learned a lot about the use of language. I always ask myself
what is language? The definition of language is the method of human communication,
either spoken or written, consisting of the use of words in a structured and conventional
way. We need language to communicate with each other and convey our feelings, likes
and dislikes etc. In this course we use theories, principles and practices to analyze and
use to assist English Language Learners. As a teacher, I am working toward achieving
academic proficiency in the content areas of the subjects, which the students are
pursuing. This course allowed me to demonstrate knowledge of ELLs and the role of
individual characteristics in the process and outcome of language learning.
Culture: There is nothing better than being exposed to a melting pot of cultures. I love
this part of being an ESL teacher. Cultures are very rich in rituals, traditions, delicious
food as well as exotic clothing. My ESL students encourage me to learn more languages.
I realized if I speak more language, I will be able to communicate and make friends with
many people. The entire world will be open for me to explore. I have to confess that
these ESL classes that we are taking are giving all the teachers the chance to become
well-rounded individuals who are exposed to amazing cultures.
Observing Planning, Implementing and Managing Instruction: This course prepares the
teachers to observe and plan standards-based ESL and content instruction for students.

This course also allowed teachers to observe in a real life situation actual English
Language Learners. I loved how we can make our own lesson plans and our own
vocabulary lessons. It is a very great opportunity to practice for our future classes as real
certified teachers.
Assessment: In this course we used performance-based measures to assess English
Language Learners' capacity to use grammar, speaking, reading , vocabulary, listening,
and writing to communicate.
Professionalism: In this course, we had the chance to discuss integrity, which is a great
important principle to possess as a teacher. Professionalism is very crucial. I also believe
that respect is very important in the sphere of education. The reason why respect is
significant is because it makes everybody aware of his/her responsibilities and rights.
Before expecting the students to respect the teacher, she has to respect them first. The
concept of respect can also be addressed to how well is the teacher prepared for class.
When the teacher is ready to teach and has organized lesson plans with different
activities, she is professionally respecting her work.
