INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES (BDA)
Before Instructional Strategies (Introduction)
Time Needed:
1. Students will be given one final chance to ask questions and get clarification before taking the
microscope test.
During Instructional Strategies

Time Needed:

1. Microscope Test
2. Hand back WOWBug Scientific Drawings
a. Give students time to look over graded drawings and teacher comments.
b. As a table, students will discuss where they lost points and why.
c. The teacher will show example of poor drawing on the ELMO and have students observe
and reflect on their drawing compared to the example.
d. Teacher will ask students what they identify as wrong on the scientific drawing example
i. Students will raise their hand and teacher will call on them to share. As each item
is pointed out, the teacher will make the correction and discuss how it can be
improved.
e. The teacher will ask the students why scientific drawings are important. They will
complete a think-pair-share with their table and then as a class.
i. The teacher will review the grading rubric and what she will be looking for when

Microscope Unit Day 13

Thursday 10/30

After Instructional Strategies (Closing & Additional Reinforcement/Practice)

Time Needed:
1. Exit ticket: All students will receive a slip of paper. They will be instructed to put their name on it
and finish the statement, To improve my scientific drawing to A+ work I will
a. The teacher will explain to the students that these reflections will be saved and used when
grading the black worm scientific drawings coming up.
Accommodations or Modifications needed for students with disabilities or ESOL
For the microscope test: a word bank will be given to the students who require it for their IEP. All IEP
students who require it will be pulled and have the test read to them and given extra time if needed. The
IST students will be given a modified version of the test.
Differentiation
All the tests will have challenge/application questions. These questions will not count against the regular
level students, but will be required for the honors class.
ASSESSMENT OF GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
How will you assess student learning in each phase? How will you provide feedback to students?
Student learning will be assessed with the summative microscope assessment. For the scientific drawings,
I wrote feedback to each student on their drawing as well as the grade based on the rubric. I will ask
questions to ensure understanding of the importance of scientific drawings and what is required for them.
Finally, the exit ticket will serve as a way to determine understanding of appropriate self-reflection and the
rubric.
