Summary of Dr. Maki Habibs Presentation

A presentation was given last lecture by Dr. Maki Habib; Professor of Mechatronics in the Mechanical
engineering department. With over 200 papers and 6 books, Dr. Maki has introduced the field of
research in mechatronics in a rather very engaging and interesting way. He introduced two different
topics; namely Robot Surrogates and tele-cooperation communication technology. The first described
the research in robotics smart systems where activities of human are mimicked in a robot which is
especially important for disable people for example. Dr. Maki referred to different studies done in that
field and mentioned two conducted on a course project level and another in an undergraduate thesis
level. The course project was making a mobile robot responding to different commands such as move
left, move right.. etc. on the thesis level, an exoskeleton for the leg was the aim. The students did an
exoskeleton to help the disabled move. Such field is so important and development is booming as shown
in the different movies.
