Student Discusses Importance of

Building Resume For Future

By Lauren VerDuin
When it comes to a resume, many
applicants get discouraged and fail to
recognize the importance of developing it. Often times when preparing
for an interview or when applying for
a job, students and job applicants are
highly focused on the layout and how
their resume is organized. While this is
important, the experiences and accomplishments you include are really what
sets your resume apart and its never
too late to get started.
Junior Journalism/PR major, Paige Gilbreath, is one of many Baylor students
to recognize the importance of developing a resume. Originally a psychology major, she needed something that
allowed her to deal with people more
and be more creative.
It wasnt until the fall of her junior
year that Paige switched her major to
public relations major in the Journalism,
Public Relations and New Media Department.
With public relations, Paige has enjoyed the variety of skills that the major
entails such as photography, writing,
social media and other areas that allow
her to express herself.
When asked about specific ways she
has begun to expand her resume, Paige
went on to describe her experiences at
places such as the Waco Symphony Or-

chestra and The

Odyssey.
The WSO has
allowed me to
gain one-on-one
experience from
a public relations
and marketing
professional,
Gilbreath said.
I have written
Paige Gilbreath
news releases
that have been sent to numerous news
outlets, written and directed a television
commercial, designed posters and mailouts, written articles and am currently
producing a promotional video directed
toward college students.
Gilbreath has greatly benefited from
the plethora of experience.
It has been incredible adding such a
variety of work to my portfolio as well
as getting mentored by someone in the
workforce, Gilbreath said.
The Odyssey, an all-Greek collegiate magazine, has allowed her to be
creative and write about whatever she
wants.
It has been such a cool experience
writing about what Im passionate about,
such as my study abroad trip and music
and having hundreds of students read
all about it, Gilbreath said.
