Progress Report

Below, I discuss the status of my progress with my inquiry into disiplinarity project.
Introduction
The name of this project is called Inquiry into Disciplinary. This project is classified as an
ethnography meaning that it is the study of the customs, habits, and characteristics of individuals
that are part of a community, this way it can be fully understood. The idea of this project is that
in order to understand a community inside a discipline we need to collect information about the
individuals that are part of it, and in this way we can make the transition from an outsider to an
insider easier. To get the information that we need to complete this project I am using three
research methods, that will we named below. The discipline that I choose to study is marketing.
Research Methods
My research methods include interviewing, surveying, site observation, and document analyses.
Interview(s)
So far I have interviewed two people. The first person I interviewed was a professor, that wants
to be referred simply as Marketing Professor, I interviewed him on October 22, at 2:40 in his
office at the College of Business Administration. The interview lasted about one hour, and I took
notes on his answers. The second person that I interviewed was Denise Olivas who is a
marketing lecturer here at UTEP, the interview was on October 23, at 1:30 in her office at the
College of Business Administration. The interview lasted thirty minutes and I took notes on her
answers.
Survey(s)
I have scheduled to do my surveys on October 29, at 3:00 in the college of business room
312.The reason I m scheduled to do my surveys at that time is because there is going to be a
marketing workshop. In this workshop there will be a lot of students who are interested in
marketing or are currently students of marketing. I have a high level of confidence when it
comes to finishing this research method.
Site Observation(s)

So far I have one site observation scheduled by October 29, at 3:00 in the college of business
room 312. For this site observation I will be observing the individuals of a marketing workshop.
The key individuals that I will be observing will be the lecturer, which will be a marketing
professor who is teaching at a junior level. I will also be observing the students who attend this
workshop, they will be students who are interested in or are currently majoring in marketing.
Fora second site observation I will ask a professor if it will be possible for me to observe his
class,
Document Analyses
Up until now I have only analyzed two documents, a syllabus and a career plan document. The
syllabus tittle is Marketing 3302- Costumer Behavior by Dr. Fernando Jimenez, this document
functions within the discipline by guiding students through the class and for them to see ahead
what they are going to learn throughout the course, it guides the next generation of marketers.
The career plans title is Im majoring in Marketing provided by UTEPs Career Canter.
This document provides student with list and information of different internship opportunities,
student organizations, professional organizations, major related job sites, and related
occupations. This document functions within this discipline by providing current or future
marketing students with valuable resources. I am also planning to analyze several other
documents such as articles and academic journals by the two individuals that I have interviewed,
and syllabi of different marketing classes. I have confidence that I will finish this research
method by the date that the project is due.
Conclusion
I have a high level of confidence that I will be finishing this project on time, with all of the
research methods completed correctly. The only problem that I have encountered so far is on
asking the right questions to get the information that I need through the use of surveys. Im on
schedule when it comes to the interviews, site observation, and surveys, but I think I have not
given enough attention to document analysis.
