Specific Topic: Superlative Adjectives

Competence:

Identifies and uses superlative adjectives in written and oral communication.


Rationale:
Adjectives are very important part of speech in English, the correct identification and use
of the superlatives adjectives will lead the student into acquiring the language and use it
in a meaningful way.
Lesson Content:
How to identify superlative adjectives.
How to write an adjective into superlative form by using -est ending.

Warm-up
Students are engaged into solving a hangman puzzle. Secret Word: Adjectives.

b. Teaching procedures

Presentation:
1. Teacher explains superlative adjectives using small posters with adjectives and pictures.
2. Teacher explains how to identify a superlative adjective by noticing their ending -est.

Controlled practice:
1. Teacher circles the superlative adjectives in the sentences written on the poster.
2. Teacher hands over a worksheet with 10 sentences. Ss must circle the superlative adjectives
in each sentence.

Semi controlled practice:


1. Teacher shows students cue cards with a picture and an adjective written down upon the
cue card.
2. Students must write down one sentence on a sheet of paper, that uses the noun and the
superlative of the adjective written on the cue card.

Ss engage in the fun game called. Superlative Olympics.


Teacher splits the class into two or three big teams.
Each team will enter their best competitor in each event.
A different competitor must be chosen for each event.
The teams will receive one point for each event won.
All team members must write the correct superlative sentence after each event. The first
team to do this wins an extra point.

Teacher summarizes what superlatives adjectives are and how they are used.
d. Feedback:
Teacher addresses any difficulty the students had in completing the tasks. The Teacher ask the
students what is their opinion of the activities carried out in this lesson.
e. Formative/Summative check:
Formative check for the worksheet and the written sentences using rubrics.
f. Student Participation:
Teacher asks each group to read out loud one of the sentences written the other groups give their
opinion if the sentence is correct. The teacher also gives his opinion if needed.
g. Homework:
Students write 5 sentences using superlatives adjectives and illustrate them through pictures.

worksheet. Markers, blank manila paper sheets to write upon for examples if needed.
