I thought I would take a moment to introduce a familiar name to many of you, Lace. Knowing of the name though doesnt
tell you what weve been up to these days.
Lace Music Products is a family owned company. Lace is celebrating its 30th year in business. Today, from its small
start in the family garage, started by Don Lace, Sr. and his sons, and his wife Dorothy, the company manufactures the

Original Equipment Lace
The Sensor Gold World Class Tone. We have built

these world famous patented pickups since 1985.
Used exclusively by Fender until 1996.
The entire line is available directly through Lace Music
Products. The pickups have the same specifications
with the same great tone. Gold Lace Sensors are
designed to duplicate an early Fender single coil
pickup. Crisp top end and bell-like tone, the Lace
Sensor Gold utilizes the latest technology to provide
excellent tone for todays players.
The Lace Sensor family has a unique Radient Field
Barrier system that surrounds both the coil and magnets, reducing annoying 60-cycle hum. The patented
Lace Micro Combs replace traditional bobbins, yielding a wider tonal range and better string balance than
traditional pickups.
Unlike ordinary pickups, Lace Sensors generate 36
separate magnetic sensing fields which, in the areas
where they contact the strings, read the strings
vibration. (Regular pickups only generate anywhere
from 4 to 12 fields.)
Lace Sensors also have Radient Field Barriers: metal
slides which frame the inner core of the Sensors and
perform two functions. The first is to shield the Sensors from outside noise and 60 cycle hum.
The second is to produce a broader yet more concentrated umbrellas of sensing fields that standard
magnetic pickups.
Less Noise, More Harmonics
As compared to standard pickups, sensors read a
greater physical area of the string, while picking up
less outside interference. This makes the signal-tonoise ration nothing short of phenomenal for a single
coil system. Also, a wider range of harmonic content
is read by the Sensors, delivering a more complex
tonal response.
Increased Sustain, Truer Pitch
Since they operate so efficiently, Lace Sensors can
utilize much lower energy magnets than ordinary pickups, and this in turn brings about a whole new realm
of properties. In regular pickups, the magnetic fields
are so strong they physically dampen, or drag on, the
strings vibration, reducing sustain and actually changing the pitch. But in Lace Sensors, string dampening
is virtually nonexistent. This means your sustain is
increased dramatically while the string holds its true
pitch for the duration of the note.

Chrome Domes
The Chrome Domes have been praised for both their sweet,
rounded tones and simultaneously described as sounding like a
Strat on steroids. This was accomplished by modifying a pickup
already known for its bell-like tone and rich history, the original Gold
Sensor.
We took the Gold, long a favorite of such artists as Eric Clapton,
and slammed and crammed it with hotter magnetics, and
reverse wound the middle pickup, then wrapped the pickups in
chrome-plated heavy brass.
We specifically upgraded it and did some very direct tweaking with
the coil, so it gives a sweeter, more rounded tone, but with a lot
more punch. This turbo-charging results in sweet highs that dont
pierce and solid lows that dont boom. And a lot of power. If there
was ever a hot-rod vintage Lace Sensor, this is the one.

What? An Aluminum Guitar Pickup?

Weve all read about, experimented with and of course
played the typical pickups made up of copper wire, a fiber
bobbin and magnets. That design has been around for
more than 50 years and more and continues to be standard design of builders. But for those familiar with Lace
pickups, we do nothing the same. So for over the last 20
years we have prided ourselves in offering alternatives.
Since our original debut in 1986 with Fender, we always
pushed the design envelope to achieve better performance, quieter operation and of course tone. Passively I
should add.
Today though, much excitement has been brewing over
the newest breakthrough design ( from this century ) in the
state of the art pickup design arena. We call it the Alumitone. Arguably, its the most radical designed magnetic
pickup developed. It is a bit mind boggling as to why and
how this cool (in my humble opinion) looking pickup works.
First off, the Alumitone has like all other magnetic pickups;
copper wire, magnets and pickups the vibrations of the
strings as you strum your guitar.
However, beware this is where the similarities end. So lets
start with the good ol form and function , like all good
design have.
The chrome that you see in the picture is over the Aluminum frame of the pickup. Its just like the same lightweight
stuff used in our everyday products that we use, food
trays, soda cans and more. I can tell you that we found that
as electrons ( a little science class ) travels through the
aluminum it offers a greater current flow. This allows the
Alumitone it to enhance more of the nuances and characteristics of amplifiers for example. Those famous boutique
manufactures that add their own special touch to an amp
design are now quiet apparent in sound because the Alumitone can offer a much broader band response thus letting
the player really hear what those designers had intended.
Now the chrome area in the Alumitone design is acting
as a giant single turn of wire to make the circuit. And like
all magnetic pickup designs it needs a magnet to create
the flux field. Friendly ceramic 8 magnetics is the choice
here. Are you following me so far? This one turn of wire
is highly designed, like no other and could be worthy of a
little bling worn around the neck with a nice chain I might
add.
So going on the one turn of wire aluminum frame is

called the pickup exoskeleton. This is then coupled to
a series of laminations that are in turn coupled to a dual micro secondary pickup coil. This is where the coil will voice
the pickup just like any other pickup except the Alumitone
uses about 95% less wire. There is enough coil signature
in the bobbin to shape the tonality of the pickup to many
applications. We are now able to complete a family of pickups for single coil, humbucker, and bass to name a few.
All designs out there relate as well to a resistance. The Alumitone does as well, but you might be thrown off when you
take a multi meter reading and the DC resistance is only
showing 2.6k. Any other pickup would tell; you little output
and little volume. A real dog. The Alumitone delivers a
comparable 12k or more sonically.
Sonically, Alumitones have what we call a broad band
response meaning that it has a huge bottom end, huge
midrange and huge top end. As I said before guitar amps
shine thru with the Alumitone as its combination of low
resistance and broad range response brings out the best
in amp design. The Alumitone can be quiet chameleon , it
will take on the attributes of any amp. With such a broad
range response , plug your guitar into an acoustic amp and
wow, youve got acoustic overtones! Aluminum is lighter
then copper and with the Alumitone you can actually shave
some weight off your guitar for example a two humbucker
equipped guitar with Alumitones will actually weigh about an
half a pound less then normal wound pickups on the same
guitar! So take that off your shoulders!
Oh yeah , just a few other things: with 95% less copper
wire guess whatno microphonic feedback. No coil.no
feedback.
For those that use a computer when recording , interfacing
or writing and have always been troubled by interference
fear no more. The lack of a large coil also eliminates unwanted overlapping and monitor interference making your
guitar and computer much better play mates.
Certainly, as the source , we here at Lace are a bit jaded
as to its technology and merits , but we can attest that if
you wish for more from your amp, dead quiet operation
, less weight for your guitar and more sonic output then
please try a set of Alumitones with a design that is unique
to the world of electric guitar pickups!

Dobro Sensor
The Dobro Sensor pickup was developed several years ago with
the Dobro factory, when they were located down the street from us
in Huntington Beach. This is the only magnetic Dobro style unit
available today. It can take you from the gritty Delta to the twang
of Bluegrass and all points in between. Noted users of the Dobro
units include Ronnie Wood, Bob Dylan, and a host of others. Currently used by the Dixie Chicks for both recording and in concert.

The new and improved Lace Bajo Sexto in-hole pickup has been
revoiced to provide more output with greater tonal range. A favorite

Ultra Slim Acoustic Sensor
The USA Sensor features an extreme low profile (.275 tall) for all
resonator applications. The additional features include a high quality
cable with a Switchcraft brand 1/4 female jack. The jack also allows
the player to have the USA Sensor permanently installed. Featuring
Duo-coil design, this full size humbucker is the slimmest pickup available today. Resonator players can now enjoy a more balanced and

What sets the Futureliner apart from other pickups in its class is its
signature pickup Protecto guard which surround the low strings on
the guitar. The Protecto like a pickguard works to protect the pickup
from direct hitting of the pickup by a player during hard intense
playing, thus reducing extra noise and damage. Protecto guards

Powered By Lace Tres Hombres Single Coils
The Tres Hombre series utilizes 3 poles, each with different metal
content design which maximizes the performance of the guitars
strings. Each heavy duty pole is used for two strings E and A, D
and G, and B and high E respectively that have similar resonant
frequency. Each unique pole uses a different metal lorgy content to
maximize the harmonics and the strong vibration of each of the two
paired strings. Highly shielded with extra copper tape and offered
with a reverse wound middle, the Tres Hombres gives the player
the quack and attack that sets apart the player. Tres Hombres are
available in neck, bridge and middle and are sold separately.

Extra heavy duty copper shielding and neck/bridge with reverse
