FUTURE FORMS

A) Will + infinitive
Promises. When we promise something we use will + infinitive:

Ill help you with your homework.

Ill write soon.

1.Unplanned decisions. When we talk about decisions made at the moment of speaking:

Ill have the fruit salad.

Ill come back tomorrow.

2.Predictions. We use will + infinitive to give personal opinions about the future:
I think itll be hot tomorrow.
I dont think hell pass his exams
3. Offers, promises and requests.

I'll give you my autograph

I won't be late
Will you please count your change?

B) To be going to + infinitive
1.Decisions. We made the decisions before speaking. We often talk about an intention
+ a plan. It often implies the idea that some preparation has been done.

A: What are you going to do with so much paint?

B: Im going to paint the room blue.
2.Predictions made when theres some evidence (sth we can see or hear):

Look at that boy! Hes going to fall off the bike!

There are a lot of black clouds in the sky. Its going to rain.

IMPORTANT: We dont use this verb form with the verbs go or come. We use
present continuous instead. I am going to the theatre tonight

C) Present Continuous
1. Future arrangements. For things in the future we have already arranged. The time
must be mentioned or be clear from context, otherwise there may be confusion
between present and future.

Im taking an exam in October.

Bob and Bill are meeting tonight. (Both have arranged this)
BUT
With verbs of MOVEMENT (go, come, drive, fly, leave, start, travel), verbs indicating
POSITION (stay, remain) and the verbs (do, see, have (food or drink)) the present
continuous and the to be going to form are possible.
What are you doing / going to do on Saturday? (Both are possible)
Im staying / going to stay at home. Im going to make a cake. (Both are possible)
With see, meet, leave and have (food or drink), the present continuous is more
common.

D) Present Simple
With a time expression for a definite future arrangement related to timetables,
routines or schedules.

My A-levels start next week.

E) Future Continuous
Something that will be happening at a certain moment in the future.

Tomorrow at 17.30 I'll be watching a football match on TV.

F) Future Perfect
To talk about something completed by a certain time in the future.

I save 50 a month, so by the end of the year I'll have saved 300.
