Treatment:
Blurb:
A terribly quiet neighbour, loud parties, noises and a light on at 2 am, and a missing girl.
Character Biographies:
Name: Charlotte Evans
Age: 21
Accent: Received Pronunciation
Lives: On her own in a student house.
Charlotte moved out of her parents house last year to go study in Nottingham University.
She is a writer and has been writing since she was 14.
She likes to be in a quiet peaceful place when she writes but her loud neighbour makes this very
difficult.
Charlotte has always had problems with making friends and when she moved out her parents she
decided she wanted to try a social experiment and lock her best friend in her house when she once
came to visit her.
Charlotte has always been quiet at school but she has always been a good student.
She hates her neighbour because he reminds her of the people who used to bully her in secondary
school because of his arrogant loud personality.
Charlottes parents never suspected anything wrong with Charlotte although the rest of the family
always worried that she only had one friend and they worried about her not ever socializing.
The decision for doing her social experiment came from her wanting to see if people actually like
you more when they need something from you, for example in this situation she wanted to see if her
friend would beg for her to release her and pretend she actually liked her.

His dad owned his own business company and on the weekends he would be a football coach.
Josh grew up in big house in Bournemouth with his brother and his dad.
Josh has always admired his dad, he is Joshs role model especially because he had to raise two kids
by himself after the passing of Joshs mum in a plane wreck when Josh was only 13. Joshs dad says
Josh has a lot of characteristics that remind him of his mother.
Josh moved to Nottingham to study about sports when he turned 20, he made friends quickly and is
doing well in his studies.
Josh always throws parties in his house, and he always gets complaints from his neighbour Charlotte,
although Josh tends to ignore these complaints he always notices his neighbours light is always on at
2 in the morning and he always hears loud noises that wake him up coming from Charlottes house.

Storyline:
Charlotte Evans a 21 year old student/writer moves to Nottingham to study at Nottingham
University. She never really had any friends apart from her best friend Natalie who stopped talking
after they moved to go to different universities. Charlottes life consists of listening to classical music,
studying, writing, and telling her next door neighbour Josh to keep the noise down.
Charlotte has daily arguments with her neighbour Josh about his loud music and friends. One day
Charlotte goes over to Joshs house to complain and Josh asks her why there were noises and lights
on coming from her house, Charlotte then pretends she doesnt know what hes talking about and
leaves.
Josh starts to wake up every night from loud screaming-like noises coming from Charlottes house
and notices that every night at exactly 2 am the light of her window turns on.
Josh hears on the news about a girl who went to Nottingham to visit her friend for the weekend and
went missing.
He talks to Charlotte about it and Charlotte pretends she does not know the girl and she says its very
sad that shes missing.
Josh then finds out that the girl missing was Charlottes best friend that came to visit Charlotte and
her parents announced she was missing after 2 weeks from not hearing anything from her and
Charlotte telling them she had gone home 2 days after she came to visit her and then heard nothing
from her.
One of the days where Charlotte goes to complain about Joshs loud music Josh decides to confront
Charlotte asking her why she didnt tell him that the girl missing was her best friend, and why there
were noises coming from her house every night. Charlotte gets mad with Josh for accusing her.
When she goes home we see that Natalie, Charlottes best friend is tied up in Charlottes basement.
Later on the night when Charlotte gets up at 2 in the morning to check on Natalie she hears a loud
banging on her door. The story ends with Charlotte hearing people trying to knock down the door.
Statement of Intent:
My intent for this film is to create a something that leaves people thinking. I want the end of this film
to be open for interpretation. I think I would be the right person to make this film because as the
writer I know where I want to take this film and what effect I want to create on the audience and if
someone else created this film they would take the film a whole different direction than the one I
have in mind. I want to create a drama piece influenced on thriller films. I will focus more on the film
making and storyline rather than the characters so that I can create the right feel for the movie I am
looking for.
Narrative Structures:
What is narrative?

JOSH:
I know she would have been proud. Thanks dad. Ill speak to you soon.
CHARLOTTE:
Are you fucking serious.
JOSH:
Come on! It wasnt even that loud!
CHARLOTTE:
Why do you have to do this everyday?! I dont know about you Josh but I
have important things to do.
JOSH:
Oh come on neighbour! Take it easy its almost Christmas!
CHARLOTTE:
Great(!) I hate Christmas. Listen, could you at least keep it down for like
a couple of hours?
JOSH:
Yeah sure
CHARLOTTE:
Thanks.
JOSH:
Hey, this got delivered to my house I think its yours.
CHARLOTTE:
Thanks.
JOSH:
By the way, did you hear what happened with that girl that came here to
visit her friend, she went missing, its so strange.
CHARLOTTE:
No, where did you hear that?
JOSH:
It was on the news last night.
CHARLOTTE:
Really yeah, strange. Anyway thanks.
CHARLOTTE closes the door and JOSH walks back to his house.
JOSH:
What the fuck
CHARLOTTE:
Hey by any chance did you get another envelope for me delivered to your
house? Ive just been waiting for this letter for a few weeks so ..
SIMON:
Um no, thats the only letter I got that was for you.
CHARLOTTE:
Oh.. ok well thanks anyway.
SIMON:
Yeah, no problem.
JOSH is standing outside her house looking into her window and he checks
his watch to see that it is 2am.
JOSH:
Got this through the post, its for you.
CHARLOTTE:
Ah! Finally! Thank you.
JOSH:
Its cool. Um listen.. why didnt you tell me the girl missing was your
friend.
CHARLOTTE:
I just didnt feel like it was something you needed to know.
JOSH:
Hm. Ok. By the way, were you ok last night I heard a noise coming from your
house
CHARLOTTE:
I dont think that noise came from my house probably came from your next
door neighbour.
JOSH:
Yeah probably.
CHARLOTTE:
I knew youd find out in the end.
I needed some inspiration for my book, and well a writer has to do what
they need, right?
CHARLOTTE:
Look, you did this yourself, maybe if you just minded your own business you
wouldnt be here. Trust me I dont want to have you here. But I cant have
you rat me out in the middle of my experiment.
CHARLOTTE stands up
CHARLOTTE:
You see, people never care about you unless they need something from you.
Right now youre in a situation where you cant really help yourself, so
you would need someone to help you me if you werent tied up you would be
begging for me to let you go. Its all for my new book, Im calling it A
Silent Scream You wouldnt understand anyway, your brain only cares about
stupid sports. Anyway Sleep tight.
END.
