Procedures:
Motivation:
1) What are the four seasons of the whole year? Remember the chant that we did.
Winter, spring, summer, fall, hey, hey I know them all!
2) Turn and talk to a partner about something you already know about the seasons. It can
be something you know about summer, fall, spring, or winter. (This is the preassessment).
Grouping:
Students will be put in pairs for turn and talk. The students will be paired by mixed
ability a high with a middle, a low with a middle, and so on.
3) Students will come back together, and I will ask each pair what they talked about.
This will be my way of checking them off of something they know about the seasons
or one of them.
4) I will then read a book about seasons. It will be called Every Season. We will talk
about the clothing that is worn in each season as well as other activities that we do in
each season.
5) Students will then be put in a circle around the carpet. Their items will already be in
the front of the room. Each item had to have the students name on it so it can be
handed to them.
6) I will put signs that have the name spring, summer, fall, and winter. Right next to the
words will be pictures of something that belongs in that season. Students will be
classifying their items by season and will be put them in that column.
7) After the classifying of items, students will count how many in each. We will talk
about which season the most and the least and which season that had the same
amount.
8) Students will then be instructed to think of their favorite season. They are asked to
keep their opinion in their brains. The students will then figure out why they like that
particular season had the most.
9) Students will then go their seats where they will be handed a sheet with the title My
Favorite Season. It will have two lines at the bottom for their writing.
10) The students have to put their name on it, draw themselves in the picture with the
correct clothing for the season that they like the most.
11) Students will also need to have correct punctuation and an uppercase letter at the
beginning of their sentence.
12) At the end of the lesson, students will say the season chant one more time and share
with everyone what their favorite season is.
13) We will do another class graph if there is time.

Accommodations:
For each of the students, I will have yellow paper strips for the students to copy their
sentence. I will come around and ask each one why they like their season. I will write the
sentence down and they will copy it. Ms. South will be helping too.
When students, are finished early, they will add more details into their picture like a tree
for fall, rain for spring, a sun for summer, and snow for winter.
