Dear Parents,

This weeks Bible lessons were about Jacob and the dream he had. Jacobs father (Isaac)
gave a blessing to each of his sons, and Jacob got the better blessing. This made his brother
(Esau) jealous and very angry. To protect him from Esau, Jacobs mother (Rebekah) sent him to
stay with his uncle (Laban) far away. Along the way, he stopped for the night and had a dream
that there was a ladder from heaven to the ground. In this dream, God promised that He would
always be with Jacob. He also reminded Jacob of the promises He had given to Abraham.
Through this story of Jacobs dream, we also remember Gods promise to always be with us and
protect us. The Lord is faithful in all His words.
We kicked off our study of apples this week. We learned about the cycle of seeds, trees,
and fruit, discovered if apples sink or float, and talked about the different kinds of apples. Next
Wednesday is our AppleWorks fieldtrip! We are so excited!!
In math, we learned how to use a ten-frame, tally marks, numerals, objects, and words to
represent a number value. Each way helps us see the number a little differently, and therefore
gain a deeper understanding of what that value means and how to work with it.
Our letters this week were Ee and Hh. Next week we will get to Rr and Mm. Please be
reviewing the letters we have already done! This includes recognizing and producing the sound
the letter makes, writing the letter, and finding the letter in words we say and hear. So far, we
have done:
Ss

Aa

Tt

Ii

Pp

Nn

Cc

Kk

Ee

Hh

We had a few things to focus on in literacy this week. We worked on hearing syllables in
words, counting them, and clapping the beat to words. We also talked about punctuation. The
students know to recognize periods, exclamation points, question marks, and quotation marks
(or talking marks). When you read books, have them identify the punctuation you see. When we
read, we use our reading strategies:
-

Eagle Eye (looking at the pictures to help us figure out the story)
Lips the Fish (saying the first sound of a word to help us figure out that word)
Stretchy Snake (stretching a word out to say every sound we see).

Announcements:
-

MONDAY is the due date for the Parent-Teacher Conference sign-up sheets!
Even though our fieldtrip is on a Wednesday, the students do not need to wear
their polo shirts. We will not be attending chapel that day.
As a Kindergartener, your child should be learning his/her full name, parents
names, birthday, and address.

Have a wonderful weekend!
