Text Type Research in Pairs (mini FOA)

1) Find 1 example of ONE of the following with your partner & make sure it is suitable for analysis
(there are enough features for you to analyze: feature article, blog, cartoon, speech, essay,
memoir, ad, news article!
2) Do some research on your text type. Create an informative display poster to introduce your fellow
students to your chosen text type (in general, not your specific example of the text type). The
poster should be visually appealing, and should include the following:!
- Text Type in clear, large letters!
- Definition of the text type (including purpose)!
- Key features of the text type (design elements, layout, structure)!
- commonly recurring literary features/rhetorical devices in this text type!

3) For your specific, chosen textual example, discuss the meaning with your partner and come up
with the overall purpose of the text. Annotate your text to analyze its various stylistic and linguistic
features. Prepare:!
- A thesis (including a purpose & how it is conveyed)!
- Key points/examples you can use (devices) to back up your thesis (make sure these points link back
and support the PURPOSE)!

You will present the main features of your text type (your display poster) and an analysis of your (one)
example of this text type, as well as the features used to convey a message/purpose to the class.!
This is good practice for your Part 2: Language & Mass Communication FOA, as well as good
practice and information for Paper 1.!
Be creative and be critical in your analysis and presentation!!
