CONTEXTUAL FACTORS

MDD Standard
The teacher candidate collects data regarding the institutional and classroom
contexts, the characteristics of the pupils as a group and its diversity, using this
information to plan and deliver instruction.
1. Community in which the school is located and/or serves, municipality or
owner and school factors: Below, describe the geographic location, community
and school population, socioeconomic profile, and race/ethnicity.
Location: Caupolicn 491 (Concepcin)
Population (students): 6121
Population (teachers): 809
Socioeconomic profile: middle class according to government's economic division
Race: Chilean
Ethnicity: Mapuche,etc.
1.1.
How These Factors May Impact My Lessons: Explain specific ways that
these factors may impact your lesson topics, teaching strategies, assessment
techniques, etc.
As far as we concerned, what could be affect the lesson would be the way that
teacher provide the information in order to improve the students learning process.
On the other hand, it is very important to mention if the teacher is able to know the
way that students learn because they have different styles; it would be hard to teach
if the teacher does not get the way of delivering the strategies for students. Finally,
an important factor that we as a teacher must have, is a tool, which is used to assess
our students called rubric, if we do not have this element the assessment wouldnt be
accurate for students and for us as teachers.

2. Student Characteristics and Their Instructional Implications: Below, describe

how two student characteristics you observed in your student (e.g., gender,
race/ethnicity, interests, and student skill levels) might impact the way you instruct
those students.
For example, your planning, motivation, management, or
assessment. For each example of the student characteristic, give a specific
instructional implication that will influence how you plan and implement your
instruction.
2.1 Description of First Characteristic of Student(s) in this Class:
Chilean
Woman

19 years old
High participation in class
Good level of speaking ( fluency and pronunciation)
Active student
2.1.1 How This Characteristic Will Impact my Lesson:
Its very important for a teacher to have some participating students, since it might
influence the behavior of shy learners in a positive way. Furthermore, our planning
will also get influence by these types of students, because we will use more active
tasks, in which well support the communication between the learners and the
development of confidence for those students who are not able to express their ideas
very easily.
For example: in a class, which there are only 4 active students (of 20 approx.), we
will ask them to get intro groups of four, in which there will be one active student
inside the group, the task will be to discuss real problems situations in a school (such
as bullying), then they will split out and explain their information with the other
groups. The active student will star the debate about the topic, which will lead the
others to try and express their opinions and because the shy students will not have to
explain the ideas in front of the class (they will share the information with classmates
of the other groups) the effective filter will not be that high, and we will have positive
result in those students.

2.2 Description of Second Characteristic of Students in this Class:

Chilean
Man
19 years old
Poor participation in class
Average level of speaking
Shy student

2.2.1 How This Characteristic Will Impact my Lesson:

Its very common to observe shy students in a class, they usually dont participate in class
because they feel scare of speaking loudly in front of others. However, these types of
students are considered for us as a challenge, since it pushes the teacher to find the best
method to use in class to promote the development of these learners. We know that at the
moment of planning a lesson, we should use other types of strategies that promote the
confidence in shy students, such as: social strategies, since by asking a simple question to
you other classmate you are improving the social skill of the person. We could use the same
previous activity since the environment is focus to help those students by creating a
comfortable classroom and also the support of active students
3. Physical Aspects of the Classroom and Their Instructional Implications:
Below, describe how two physical aspects of the classroom you observed (e.g.,
posters, room arrangement, technology) might impact the way you instruct students,
for example, planning, motivation, management, or assessment. For each example,
give a specific instructional implication that will influence how you plan and
implement your instruction.
3.1 Description of First Physical Aspect:
The classroom has a data show where through this the teacher show students
the information that they need in order to develop the class in a better way.
3.1.1 How This Aspect Will Impact My Lesson:

As far as we concerned, the use of media in a classroom make the process of

learning dynamic and less boring, the management is easier because you have everything
and is less possible that you forget important information.
3.2 Description of First Physical Aspect:
The arrangement of the chairs and the space for the teacher.
3.2.2 How This Aspect Will Impact My Lesson:
The order of the chairs is suitable for students because each one is looking at the
board and the space is adequate for the teacher because she can move for every place.

Reflects on the importance of knowing about students and the context to provide quality
teaching.
As we know, to get information about how the student learn is very important in
order to create a good lesson plan and to get a good response from the students. Another
thing that we have to mention is in the way that the context affect the learning process. If
we settle the students in a different context, which is not the one that they live, it would be
very difficult that students acquire the knowledge in a successful way; they wont be able to
apply what they are learning in a real situation or in a real context. It is very important to
have into account all these aspects if we want to have better results from our students in
the future.
