Organizational Culture Fit Reflection

The ideal organizational culture and environment that would be best suited for my future
employment would be one that is not typical in the business world. Some things as simple as the
beliefs and traditions, the environmental orientation, or even the hours of the firm in which one
works can make the difference in a person loving their job of waking up every morning dreading
going in to work.
A factor that is extremely important for my future place of employment is for the
company to be able to remain strong through tough external environmental factors such as
government changes or even a recession. The firm also should have a strong culture. Strong
organization cultures result in increased performance and more loyal employees; overall, it
makes the workplace more enjoyable to be a part of. As exemplified in the textbook, Managers
decisions are influenced by the culture in which he or she operates. An Organizations culture
influences and constrains the way managers plan, organize, lead, and control(Robbins &
Coulter, 2010, p. 57). It is important for all employees in general to be in an organization where
they feel that they fit in to the culture in order to achieve success and prosper.
For the work schedule, I would prefer the typical 9am to 5pm, Monday through Friday
with lots of flexibility, holidays off, and at least two weeks of paid vacation per year. It is
important for the firm to have a basic structure, but still be flexible in our continuously evolving
world. It would be preferable if the company had a more relaxed, but still professional, dress
code. Also, the overall environment within the work place should encourage innovation while
promoting happiness and enjoyment of the job.
An excellent representation of an organization that would best suit myself is the Build-ABear Company. The firm headquarters encourages a work environment that is spontaneous, fun,

and even playful. Day to day work there involves a relaxed dress code as well as a flexible work
schedule. The best part about the Build-A-Bear company headquarters is that dogs are welcome!
It would be a dream come true if I could bring my dogs to work with me!
