Cancer Paper and Presentation

Paper Component

Due October 8, 2014

Worth up to 32 points
3-4 pages single spaced, MLA format, Works Cited page (doesnt count toward the page total)
Must include a report of plagiarism from http://smallseotools.com/plagiarism-checker/
The first two pages need to be printed to prove your paper was run through the software and
it must be 80% or more unique material (aka material you thought of, not copy and pasted from
Wikipedia).
If plagiarism is detected, the student in question will have a personal conference with Miss
Armbruster and Mrs. Smith.
What the paper will include:

A summary of your cancer

How this cancer affects the body

How this cancer is different from other cancers (type of cells it targets, only in childhood, only
in old age, result of a carcinogen, family history makes an individual more prone to
developing this cancer, etc)

Treatments for this cancer (radiation, chemotherapy, blood transfusion, bone marrow
transfusion, etc) and a description of how this treatment kills the cancer cells

Proper use of medical terminology and any other medical jargon. If new words are present
other than those we have covered in class, quickly define them in your paper.

Other things about this paper:

In text citations and Works Cited must be present and in MLA format

Presentation Component

Due October 8, 2014

Worth up to 16 points
Power point with live presentation, PPT with prerecorded narration, video of presentation
What this presentation must include:

4-5 minutes in length

Bullet points or a summary of information you want to convey on each slide- not paragraphs

Graphics explaining your cancer and how it affects the body

Interesting theme and color scheme but not distracting

Use a cheat sheet or notecards to remind you of information that you want to present so
that it is not all on the slide

Do not read directly from the slides during the whole presentation

Practice, practice, practice! Medical terms can be tricky to say and you dont want to waste
time on pronunciation.
